Esperanza Health Center

This is one of a handful of locations Esperanza has operated over the years. The location on Kensington offers general primary care services, laboratory, and dental services, along with other partnered services through their operations. This clinic is in the heart of the Kensington neighborhood (K&A) serving people of all backgrounds regardless of their race, gender, orientation, et cetera. I have never really had an issue with their overall service as a patient. The primary care team is excellent, their nurses and support staff communicate very well, and their social workers, dietitians, and beyond all follow up seamlessly with after care information. I have also never had an issue with making appointments. If you need an after ER care follow up or need to see a provider, they usually have same day appointments or even next day appointments available, moreover, if they can't see you at your primary location, they will schedule you at their other locations at either 5th Street or Cayuga Street. Other appointments, as with many other clinics can be weeks or months out due to the nature of visit. Physicals, as an example, might be scheduled out some time ahead but also its the responsibility of the patient to be more proactive and not wait until the last minute to schedule their visits. The dental department is also great! However, if you are wanting to become a new patient, there is a weeks long waiting list you will be put on before they schedule you for your first intake/appointment. As a habit, you should always keep your ID and Insurance Card with you. Registration staff seems to randomly ask for it at will. If you are not insured, you should be prepared to provide paystub statements and they will work with you to pay on a sliding scale fee for either department. They have a pharmacy on site but in my experience, you might have to wait a few days for certain medications. Security staff is nice wirh one glaring exception. A young gentleman named "Joseph" can be very rude and combative. One incident, he ignored my spouse who was attempting to "sign in" for registration while he was too occupied on his phone to realize we were standing there, waiting for more than thirty seconds. In another incident, I was alone and he kept insisting that I had to check in for the laboratory and kept asking my name and date of birth which was never a thing. No one makes appointments to have labs done. You let them know you're going to the lab on the 3rd Floor and sign in upstairs in the Blue Zone during their open hours which I believe are 9 to 12 and 2 to 4 on weekdays, but "Joseph" definitely needs to re‐trained or maybe not interact with the public directly (or consistently). I heard other patients complaining about his attitude in the registration lobby, so I know its not an isolated incident(s). Overall, Esperanza Health is not perfect but I give them a 5 stars because anyone that has ever visited Temple at Episcapal, Maria de Los Santos, or other nearby facilities know by experience that Esperanza is a league above them.

This is a community outreach center in Kensington which provides educational programs, nice reasoning gym, space available to rent and has a great rooftop lounge

THIS IS THE WORST DENTIST OFFICE EVER THEY LIE ABOUT GIVING A CALL BACK I BEEN CALLING FOR MONTHS AND NO ONE HAS RETURNED MY CALL THIS IS THE WORSE PLACE EVER! SO UNPROFESSIONAL

No, this place is truly a place where you have to come prepared to stay all day. They give you an appointment for one hour and they don't come to see you until three hours later. I get frustrated every time I have to come to that place. Sometimes I don't really want to go because knowing I have to stay all day makes me think it's better not to go.

I love this place, I've been visiting for 7 years and every day I receive the best service.
