About Family Care Dental

Family Care Dental sits on Green Springs Highway in the Glen Iris area, in the residential corridor between downtown Birmingham and the Homewood municipal line. The practice handles general dentistry for the surrounding south-central Birmingham community — longtime homeowners, working families, and the patients who've kept their dentist as the neighborhood has changed around them.

Routine fillings make up a regular share of the schedule. The team uses tooth-colored composite as the default material, with single-surface fillings for early-stage cavities, multi-surface restorations on larger cases, replacement fillings when older work has failed, and the structural call between filling and crown when more tooth material has been lost. Beyond fillings, services include cleanings and exams, root canals for cases where decay has reached the nerve, crowns and bridges, basic extractions, gum-disease screening, teeth whitening, and emergency dental care. They'll discuss material tradeoffs honestly per tooth rather than defaulting to one option for every case.

If you've been waiting for a filling because you weren't sure what the visit would cost, a comprehensive new-patient exam here usually combines the diagnostic with the price discussion in one visit so you can plan from there.

Patients searching for general dentist near me in Birmingham, family dentist in Birmingham, or affordable family dental care in Birmingham who live in Glen Iris, Crestline, or southern Birmingham often gravitate toward neighborhood practices like this one for the proximity and routine availability. Family Care Dental fits that pattern. The new-patient exam combines comprehensive X-rays, periodontal screening, and a treatment-plan review before any restorative work is scheduled. For Glen Iris and southern Birmingham families picking a regular general dental practice, this Green Springs Highway office is a reasonable first appointment. For patients who grind their teeth or notice signs of nighttime clenching, flagging it at the new-patient exam matters more than most realize, since wear patterns affect filling material choices and crown planning over time. Bringing prior X-rays and treatment records from a previous dentist usually saves a redundant imaging round at the new-patient exam and gives the team baseline context to compare against current findings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Family Care Dental located in Birmingham?
Family Care Dental is on Green Springs Highway in the Glen Iris area of Birmingham, Alabama (35209).
What days is Family Care Dental open?
Family Care Dental is open Monday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Family Care Dental offer?
Listed services at Family Care Dental include Cosmetic Dentistry, Root Canal Treatment, Emergency Dentistry, Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges. The full list is shown on this page.
Is gum disease reversible?
The early stage, gingivitis, is reversible with thorough cleaning and better daily plaque control. Once it has progressed to periodontitis and bone around the teeth has been lost, that bone does not grow back — treatment then aims to halt further loss.
Does teeth whitening damage enamel?
Professionally supervised whitening is not considered damaging to enamel. Short-lived sensitivity afterward is the usual side effect. The risks that do exist come mostly from overusing unsupervised products rather than from a properly applied treatment.
Why did my home whitening kit give patchy results?
Almost always uneven gel contact. Strips and one-size trays rarely sit flush against every surface, so some areas get treated and others are missed, particularly between teeth and along the gumline.

Many thanks to the staff at Family Care Dental for their excellent service, and especially to Dr. Carola for her professionalism, kindness, and clarity in explaining the treatment and recommendations for better dental care! And it's great that they also speak Spanish. Best regards.

Very bad experience, they gave me a date and time to come back and then when I call they said I didnt even have an appointment, everything looks so dirty inside, lobby is clean but as soon as u walk in , everything is dusty with hair everywhere, i request to please wait for me to be with my son who is a minor so that I can be aware of what they will be doing to him since i was with my daughter in another room finishing her cleaning and nobody called me. So i went to the other room and they finished on my son without even tell me anything then doctor said, we are done he is fine I was like i have question i mean why yall didnt wait for me, very disappointed with this people.

I went in convinced that my tooth needed to be removed because the pain had become unbearable. I could hardly sleep or eat, and I was ready for the dentist to just take it out. But after examining me, the dentist took the time to explain what was really causing the pain and assured me that extraction wasn’t the only option. They were patient, gentle, and very knowledgeable. Instead of rushing to remove the tooth, they assured me the teeth was OK and they had to avoid unnecessary procedures. The way they worked, checking on my comfort, and making sure I understood everything—made such a huge difference. I walked in terrified and hurting, but I walked out contented and so grateful. I appreciate how the dentist prioritized saving my tooth and my comfort above everything else. Truly exceptional service...
