About Fetner & Hartigan, Periodontics and Implants

Fetner & Hartigan, Periodontics and Implants operates on Park Street in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida. Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. I was so nervous walking in for my consultation, but both Kaitlyns immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease. Dr. Fetner took the time to explain everything and made sure I got the best deal possible to fix my smile. One of the Kaitlyns stayed in the room with me the entire time, talking to me and explaining every detail so I knew exactly what to expect. Their kindness and patience helped calm my nerves. What I love most is that this is a family-owned practice run by a husband and wife along with their two sons. You can truly feel the family atmosphere from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. Everyone is warm, welcoming, and genuinely cares about their patients. I highly recommend Dr. Fetner and his amazing team to anyone looking to improve their smile.

I recently had a gum graft done with Dr. Fetner and his team, and I couldn’t be happier with the care I received. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and professional from start to finish. I can be nervous about dental procedures, but they went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and informed throughout the whole process. Everything was explained thoroughly, and the procedure itself went smoothly. I truly appreciate how compassionate and attentive everyone was — highly recommend this office to anyone needing periodontal care!

Kind, professional, and supportive. Every member of their staff goes above and beyond to make sure the experience is comfortable, low stress, and... actually kinda fun. I've had a lot of major dental work done and have been living in constant pain. I've had really bad experiences at several other dental surgeons and dentists, so I was skeptical, but have been completely wowed by the staff and care they put into their work. I was referred to them to get an implant evaluation. They've worked with my primary dentist on a treatment plan that involved a crown extension, Invisalign, and two implants at the end of it all. The crown extension procedure was quick and easy. I knew what to expect of the recovery time, who to contact if I had concerns, and how to take care of my gums not just after the surgery, but going forward. Billing was easy to understand and there weren't any surprises. Even on my evaluation day, they offered to squeeze me in for a deep cleaning so that I could start feeling better right away. And it did! I was sore the first day, but it was nothing compared to how badly it was hurting me to chew food. By the third day, I could eat almost normally, which I haven't been able to do since I had the 2 teeth extracted about 6 years ago. I've never had pink gums. After following their regimen for just a few months, my gums are pink and I was able to proceed with the next steps toward my implants. No more bleeding when I brush either! I think it's been so successful because they find ways to make it easy to care for your gums and are nonjudgmental. They genuinely care. I cannot wait to go back for my implant surgery! Thank you all for your time, kindness, humor, and professionalism. I am so very grateful for your candidness and support. Thank you for not belittling me or shaming me for my dental situation. It's been a long, painful road and I'm truly thankful that you'll be there to help me round one of the last major corners in a few more months. Thank you for improving my life.
