NHS emergency dental triage in Southwark
Smyleee Rating
Very Good
UDC Southwark — referenced in our directory as First Care Urgent Care London — is the London Dental Triage's dedicated NHS emergency dental access point in Southwark, set up specifically for adult patients with severe dental problems that need immediate clinical attention. The service is part of the broader 111 NHS dental triage workflow: patients call 111 or visit www.111.nhs.uk, get assessed by triage, and are referred to UDC Southwark when their case meets the urgent-care threshold. This is not a routine dental practice and does not accept walk-in appointments without referral.
The service handles only acute presentations — significant facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, uncontrolled dental pain, and acute dental trauma. Emergency assessments include dental X-rays and necessary tests to determine the urgency and treatment path. The clinical scope is deliberately narrow: routine treatment, denture repairs, crown or bridge recementing, and standard NHS referrals are explicitly not offered here. Patients with non-urgent needs get redirected to community dental practices or their regular dentist via the 111 triage.
If you have a dental emergency in Southwark or central London — severe swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain, or trauma — this is the NHS-funded triage access point reached via 111.
The service operates Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 4:30 PM, excluding Bank Holidays, which is the standard NHS daytime emergency dental window. Outside those hours patients are routed through 111 to other emergency dental cover. Searches that bring patients here include emergency dentist Southwark London, NHS dental triage 111 referral, urgent dental care for severe pain in London, dental trauma treatment in central London, and uncontrolled dental bleeding emergency dentist. The service suits adult patients in genuine dental emergency who have either been referred via 111 or whose presentation matches the acute-care criteria the service is set up to handle.
A Southwark NHS dental triage centre handling adult emergency cases — severe pain, swelling, bleeding, and trauma — accessed via the 111 NHS dental triage referral line.

Tim, Nidhi and Kerroline were very professional, knowledgeable and very welcoming. They made a daunting visit very pleasant and enjoyable for a grown man. I can say this even after a tooth extraction. Excellent aftercare advice given. I would recommend this service and these professionals anyday. What a lovely experience!!! JB
Arian was soo lovely I came in tears n his calm atmosphere and just the effort eg 3 pic of my xray , looking all the problem , listening to me reassuring , very helpfully in all aspects I really didn’t wanna leave him. I really wanted him to do every single work there is to do in my mouth. He was so calm. I trusted him 100% and he made me wanna come back to take out my wisdom teeth privately just because of how he had with me.
I attended this practice as an emergency referral via NHS 111, with facial swelling and a lot of anxiety as I haven’t been to the dentist in a while. The clinical side of the appointment was fairly standard, but what truly stood out.. and what I wanted to make sure was recognised.. was the human care at this specific location. From the moment I arrived at 268 Waterloo Road (SE1 8RQ), I was greeted with genuine warmth and kindness. Asma (nurse) and Nidhi (receptionist) were honestly the light of my day. Two beautiful souls with real smiles, real conversation, and real care for people. Despite me being the one unwell, they made me feel calm, welcomed, and seen. We ended up chatting about life, creativity, and my jewellery work something you don’t expect when you walk into a dental appointment feeling rough. Dentistry can be daunting, especially during an emergency, but their energy, patience, and passion for aftercare made the whole experience feel human rather than clinical. That kind of care is rare these days, and it deserves to be acknowledged. Thank you to the team at the Waterloo Road practice, and especially to Asma and Nidhi.. you genuinely made a difficult day better.
Amazing clean friendly service. So happy thanks
The receptionist was very friendly and understanding. He ensured that all that concerned my appointment was well attended to. The best of all was the persons who attended to me at the X ray room. Fantastic set of people.
