About Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Florida Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a dental practice on North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, Florida. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that come through cleanly, in a good position, and can be kept clean are often left alone. Removal is generally advised when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most of the swelling and discomfort settles within about a week, with the first two or three days the most noticeable. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth generally takes longer to recover from than a simple extraction.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease or a history of decay a dentist may suggest coming more often. The point of regular visits is mostly to catch problems while they are still small and cheap to treat.

I was happy with my extraction experience as I was having pain in one of my secondary cavities. They knocked out my 2 cavities and 2 of my wisdom teeth in like 30 minutes or less. Everything went really smoothly. I was nervous coming in but Danielle and her assistants are very nice and calmed me down instantly. If anyone is scared, nervous, or feeling pain from your teeth, Dr. Danielle will take very good care of you. :)

I was really nervous about having my extraction done, but Dr. Williams and her team were great. She was calm, patient, and reassuring throughout the whole procedure, which made a huge difference for me. Her assistant and the office staff were also very kind and made me feel comfortable the entire time. Overall, it was a much better experience than I expected. I highly recommend Dr. Williams.

I had such a great experience for a not so fun procedure of getting my wisdom teeth extracted. I deal with a lot of anxiety, and from the very beginning, the entire staff made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. The consultation appointment really helped me get a better understanding of the procedure, which eased a lot of my nerves. On the day of the extraction, Dr. Danielle Williams and Shelly were absolutely amazing. They were so patient, compassionate, and supportive—especially when I started to panic. Their empathy truly made all the difference. I highly recommend them to anyone needing their wisdom teeth removed. You’ll be in very caring and capable hands!

I had a root extraction done earlier this week with Dr. Williams, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the experience. From start to finish, Dr. Williams and the entire team were professional, kind, and incredibly reassuring. The procedure was explained clearly, and they made sure I felt comfortable and confident every step of the way. Dr. Williams even went so far to call me 2 hours after my surgery to make sure I was feeling okay. You can tell this office truly cares about their patients. I’m grateful for the excellent care and would highly recommend Dr. Williams and their team to anyone needing oral surgery.

Such a nice place! My first time getting any kind surgery and they were all very friendly and on top of things, I got all of my wisdom teeth removed and they gave me a very efficient care guide for recovery afterwards. (Also the decor for the holidays is lovely)
