About Foothill Orthodontic Specialists

Foothill Village, the shopping center at 1400 South Foothill Drive, is the landmark here; the practice occupies Suite 200 in the building beside it at 1440 South. Foothill Drive is the road that carries traffic from I-80 up along the base of the Wasatch toward the University of Utah, which puts the office within a few minutes of campus, Research Park, the medical center, and the St. Mary's, Yalecrest, and Federal Heights neighborhoods. Sugar House is a short run west on 2100 South. If you work at the university, this is likely the closest orthodontic office to your desk. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, so Friday appointments exist but finish before lunch.

Three orthodontists practice here, Dr. Jeff Chandler, Dr. Brian Anderson, and Dr. Amanda Gerlach, which shortens the wait for a first appointment and means treatment carries on when one doctor is away. Options run from Damon and clear braces through Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, with early orthodontic evaluation for children and full adult treatment. Aligners deserve a plain explanation, because the plastic on its own cannot do everything. Small tooth-colored composite bumps called attachments are bonded to specific teeth so the tray has something to grip; without them an aligner simply slides over a rounded crown and tips the tooth rather than rotating it or drawing it down into the arch. That is why a canine rotation depends far more on attachment design than on the number of trays. Aligners also need twenty to twenty-two hours of daily wear, and severe skeletal bite problems still finish more predictably in fixed braces.

Invisalign Teen trays carry small blue compliance indicators that fade with wear, which turns an argument about whether the aligners went in into something a parent can check at a glance. Age seven is the usual point for a first look at a child, because the first permanent molars and incisors have arrived by then and a crossbite or a badly short arch shows itself clearly. Timing is the reason that age matters: a jaw that has years of development ahead of it can be guided, and a finished one can only be worked around. Digital scanning replaces impression trays for both records and aligner fabrication. Initial consultations are complimentary, financing is arranged in-house, and the front office coordinates insurance benefits directly. A second location in Holladay at 1548 East 4500 South covers families further south in the valley, and appointments can be moved between the two offices during treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How close is this office to the University of Utah?
Very close. The practice is at 1440 South Foothill Drive, beside the Foothill Village shopping center, and Foothill Drive runs straight up toward campus, Research Park, and the medical center, a few minutes' drive from most of them. It is also convenient from the St. Mary's, Yalecrest, and Federal Heights neighborhoods. Friday appointments are available but end at noon, so plan those visits for the morning.
Why do clear aligners need bumps bonded to my teeth?
Those bumps are attachments, small tooth-colored composite shapes that give the aligner something to grip. A smooth crown lets the plastic slide, which means a tray can tip a tooth but cannot reliably rotate it or draw it down into the arch. Attachments create the purchase those movements need. They are removed at the end of treatment and the enamel underneath is polished clean.
Can I move appointments between the Foothill and Holladay offices?
Yes. The practice runs a second location at 1548 East 4500 South in Holladay, and records and treatment plans are shared, so a routine adjustment can be taken at whichever office fits your week. Keeping your main appointments at one office helps continuity, but the flexibility matters if a job or a child's school schedule shifts partway through a two-year course of treatment.

Great invisalign experience! I have been so pleased with the progress I have seen in my teeth alignment and even the symmetry of my lips. The doctors and assistants here are all great, especially Dr. Anderson and Dr. Chandler. Their new foothill office is beautiful too. I would highly recommend them.

Maddie was absolutely amazing. My daughter was very nervous and stressed about getting her arch expander and Maddie had the most patience I’ve ever seen. She explained everything to her and made sure she felt comfortable with the procedure. Thank you!
