About Genesis Oral Surgery and Implantology

Nobody shops for an oral surgeon. Your dentist hands over a referral slip, usually with a panoramic film attached showing impacted third molars, a tooth too broken to restore, or a jaw joint that clicks and locks, and you arrive at a specialty office having never met the surgeon. The question that actually matters at that point is what the office is equipped to do and how anesthesia will be handled, because the anesthesia worries most people more than the surgery does.

Genesis Oral Surgery and Implantology is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgery practice led by Dr. Antoine Johnson. The scope is the full specialty range rather than a narrow implant menu: wisdom tooth removal and surgical extractions, dental implant placement and bone grafting, orthognathic jaw corrective surgery, TMJ surgery, management of facial trauma, and biopsy and treatment of oral pathology. Teeth-in-a-Day full-arch cases and sleep apnea treatment are also offered. The office is set up for intravenous sedation and outpatient general anesthesia, with staff trained to assist and patients monitored continuously during and after the procedure, which is why a sedation appointment means fasting beforehand, an escort home and a day cleared afterward.

The practice occupies Suite 308 at 8860 Columbia 100 Parkway, on the west side of Columbia off Route 108 near the Ellicott City line, and an easy drive from Clarksville, Dorsey's Search and the Centennial area. Weekday hours begin at 8:30am and run to 5pm Monday through Thursday, finishing at 3pm on Friday, with no weekend clinic. Post-operative problems over a weekend are handled by phone through the emergency line rather than by walking in, so ask at discharge exactly which number to call and what counts as urgent.

Two expectations worth setting before treatment. An oral surgeon places the implant but generally does not make the crown that goes on it. The restorative half returns to your general dentist, and the total cost is split between two offices, so collect both estimates. And recovery from third molar surgery genuinely varies. Most people are functional in three or four days, some need a full week, and lower impacted teeth are usually the sorer side. Plan for the middle case, not the best one.

Genesis Oral Surgery and Implantology on Columbia 100 Parkway is a specialty surgical practice led by board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Antoine Johnson. Work spans wisdom tooth and surgical extractions, implant placement and bone grafting, orthognathic jaw surgery, TMJ surgery, facial trauma and oral pathology, plus Teeth-in-a-Day full-arch cases and sleep apnea treatment. The office provides intravenous sedation and outpatient general anesthesia with continuous monitoring. Hours run 8:30am on weekdays, closing at 3pm Friday.

Frequently Asked Questions

What anesthesia options are available for wisdom teeth removal?
Beyond local anesthetic, the office is set up for intravenous sedation and outpatient general anesthesia, with staff trained to assist and continuous monitoring during and after the procedure. Which option fits depends on how impacted the teeth are, your medical history and your own tolerance. Anything past local anesthetic means fasting beforehand, someone to drive you home, and a day cleared for recovery rather than a lunch-hour appointment.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Johnson?
A referral from your general dentist is the usual route and it helps, because the panoramic film or scan and the reason for referral travel with you. Self-referral is possible as well. Either way, bring a current medication list and details of any heart, lung or bleeding conditions. Those directly shape anesthesia planning and are among the first questions the surgical team will ask at the consultation.
Does an oral surgeon also make the crown that goes on an implant?
Generally no. The surgical half, meaning extraction, grafting and placing the implant itself, happens here. The restorative half, the abutment and crown, is usually made by your general dentist or a prosthodontist. That split is normal in specialty care, but it means two fee schedules and two calendars to coordinate. Ask both offices for their portion so you can see the whole number before starting.

Everyone I interacted with at Genesis was friendly and caring. Dr Johnson is great and has a wonderful bedside manner. I am fearful when it comes to dental procedures. Dr. Johnson took time to explain every step of my dental extraction and implant procedure. I felt like I was in good hands and I feel comfortable recommending him to anyone who needs oral surgery!

First off I want to say thank you! From the moment I walked into the door I was handled with professionalism and care. Even in the days before my arrival I called the office with questions. My questions were answered effortlessly and followed up by emails. That truly set the tone for my in person visit. I was excited to be seen at my appointment, trust was built by that small interaction. Dr. Johnson!!!!!!! You are top tier! I’ve never met a Dr of your caliber. You saw my issue, set a plan and executed it. You kept close eye on me ensuring my comfort while you worked on me. That means a lot. I was so nervous to have my tooth pulled but you, your lovely team, and the calming atmosphere of your office kept my nerves at bay. Diamond your assistant was amazing, she offered me a blanket when I mentioned I was cold. She made sure I had all of the supplies and instructions to take care of myself at home. I’m looking forward to my follow up visit! I will definitely recommend you all to everyone I know.

Dr. Johnson and his staff are amazing! Great customer service and excellent care. Both of my kids (20 yo and 14 yo) recently had their wisdom teeth removed and it was a great experience. Dr. Johnson and his staff explained the procedure in full detail and answered all questions. In my opinion his front desk staff has some of the best customer service, very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend Genesis Oral Surgery!

I have had so much fear surrounding getting my wisdom teeth out for years now. I had an amazing experience at Genesis with Dr. Johnson and his staff. He was very informative during the consultation. Him and the two other staff members did a great job comforting my nerves during the procedure itself. My recovery was very smooth. The front desk is very organized and communicative, too. I am so grateful for the experience I had here and I highly recommend this office!!

Dr Johnson and his staff are absolutely amazing! From check-in to the actual procedure, everyone is welcoming and knowledgeable. Dr Johnson does a great job of explaining procedures, including risks and benefits. Sierra has been so helpful in working with my insurance for my procedure. I’ve had four wisdom teeth removed by him and highly recommend him to people looking to get a procedure done. I’m already recommending family to Dr Johnson and his team.
