About GPHA - Snyder Avenue Dental Center
GPHA - Snyder Avenue Dental Center provides dental care on East Snyder Avenue in the South Philadelphia East area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. I had my first visit at GPHA - Snyder Avenue Dental Center today, and the experience exceeded my expectations. From the moment I called to schedule a same-day appointment through check-in, everyone was kind, welcoming, and efficient. Bri took my vitals, captured detailed photos of every tooth, explained the purpose of everything she was doing, and was incredibly patient and compassionate with my limited mobility. Dr. Mensah was thorough and attentive. He reviewed my X-rays, examined my teeth, checked my lymph nodes, and, because of my history of oral surgery and upcoming medical procedures, referred me to an endodontist to ensure nothing is overlooked. I truly appreciated his thoughtful, preventive approach. It’s rare to receive this level of human-centered, patient-focused care, especially with non-private insurance. Every member of the team treated me with dignity, respect, and genuine compassion. I’m grateful to have found this office and look forward to continuing my dental care here. **This was my second visit to this office, this time for a cleaning with Kia. She was kind, patient, and very gentle, especially since I have sensitivity in a few teeth. She took her time, made sure I was comfortable, and still did a thorough cleaning. I also want to recognize the front desk team. From check-in to check-out, everything was seamless. They are welcoming, patient, and genuinely kind. They even took the time to answer questions my daughter had since she’s considering becoming a patient here. Great customer service from start to finish. I really appreciate the care and professionalism of everyone in the office.
Dr Prince Ofosu Mensah is THE BEST!! It is true they are hard to reach on the phone but this is the best, safest, most accurate dentist that is comprehensive AND bilingual in Philly! I trust no one else. Just take the day off work and come here. Hygenist is lovely as well***** Es el mejor dentista en filadelphia para toda la famillia** Llevare à GPHA
They always make patients wait too long; they don't answer your calls, and you have to go to the clinic and wait again.
Very good dental filling with Parathundil DMD, Davina and staff member. Dental preventative cleaning with Chen RDH, Min Fei. Perfect dental filling with Mensah DMD, Prince Ofosu and staff member.
Ridiculously slow. Waited an hour to be seen. If you are short on staff, please just don't schedule a ton of people.
Honestly, the worst thing that you guys could have done was to get rid of the Trinidadian girl that worked there for years! She was always happy, always professional and she was kind. The new office manager is rude. I was sitting in the patient chair and the workers were using obscene language in their conversations, they’re always laughing, the wait time is longer than it would normally be. As a matter of fact, the entire office feels different since the girl left. Thank God for Dr. prince. He’s always so calm, but I know he has to miss that young lady’s workmanship! And I also know you guys are going to lose a lot of patients!
Totally satisfactory neighborhood dentists office. They have lots of appointments available, took their time with my x-rays and the Dr was very deliberate and thorough. Thank you.
