About Greater Buffalo Orthodontics

Based on Hertel Avenue in the North Park area of Buffalo, New York, Greater Buffalo Orthodontics is a dental practice serving the area. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into alignment, handling complex bite corrections and significant crowding more predictably than removable alternatives. Treatment commonly runs one to three years, with a retainer worn afterward to hold the result.

Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. What is the difference between an orthodontist and a general dentist doing braces?
An orthodontist has completed additional years of specialist training focused specifically on tooth movement and bite correction, beyond the general dental degree. Some general dentists also offer braces or aligners after extra training.
How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?
Visible crowding or gaps are the obvious signs, but bite problems — teeth not meeting correctly, jaw discomfort, or uneven wear — are just as common a reason, and those are best assessed in person.
Will I need a retainer after braces?
Yes, and indefinitely in some form. Teeth have a persistent tendency to drift back toward their original positions, and retainers are what prevent years of treatment from gradually undoing itself.

Called to inquire if this ortho could assist with the concerns I had after my retainer broke as they are located close to my home. I forgot if I did have a consult with them years back, in 2019. I was told since they had reccomended no treatment years back, to go to whomever I had more recently worked with. This is fine, but I was curious to understand why I would not even be looked at (as teeth change), and sent to the office manager on this 1st call? Office Manager got on the phone... no hello how are you.. just immediately started almost yelling about how they reccomended no treatment, and I got something so they won't see me. I wasn't trying to push to come in, just looking for understanding here, and things to consider as I was confused by this interaction, and I have been trying very hard to correct what changed in my teeth not just for esthetics but functionality - so why not inquire to a place near by years later. What they said could have been fine, but how they said it was not. One more thing - the only questions I was asked by the receptionist on this single call and interaction since 2019, was who I saw before calling them, and what my name is. Office Manager asked zero questions.

I underwent clear aligner treatment with Greater Buffalo Orthodontics for approximately 10 months, and they were exceptional throughout the entire process. Kelley and Dr. Samad were incredibly detailed and informative. During each visit, they would explain the procedures they were going to perform and the corrections they would achieve. I am extremely satisfied with the appearance of my teeth, all thanks to Greater Buffalo Orthodontics.
