About Group Health Dental
Group Health Dental is a general dentistry practice located on the 15th floor at 230 West 41st Street in the Times Square and Garment District area of Midtown Manhattan, New York. The practice serves a broad patient base in one of the city’s most transit-accessible locations, offering dental care that draws patients from throughout the five boroughs and the surrounding metropolitan area.
Core services include professional dental cleanings, routine examinations, and general dental care. The practice maintains an affordable dental care positioning, making it accessible to patients on a range of insurance plans and budget levels. Staff communicate clearly about what is and is not covered by a patient’s insurance before treatment begins, reducing the likelihood of unexpected costs.
The clinical team includes multiple dentists and hygienists, providing scheduling flexibility and the capacity to accommodate a higher volume of patients than a solo-provider practice. Hygiene appointments are thorough, incorporating x-rays, full cleaning, and examination as part of the standard preventive visit. The practice has a range of dental services beyond basic cleanings, which means that patients who need restorative work following a routine exam can often be scheduled without needing a separate referral to another provider.
The practice has a history of transparency in billing and clinical communication. Dentists explain procedures before beginning and ensure patients understand their treatment options. Patients report that the practice does not recommend unnecessary services, which supports trust in the clinical recommendations made during appointments.
The West 41st Street address puts Group Health Dental within easy reach of the Times Square transit hub, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the 42nd Street–Bryant Park station, and many other transit connections in Midtown Manhattan. Commuters from any of the five boroughs or the surrounding region can reach the office without difficulty. The office can be reached by phone using the number on this page for new patient inquiries, appointment scheduling, and insurance questions.
The range of dental services at this practice extends beyond basic cleaning and examination, meaning that patients identified as needing restorative work at a routine visit can often be scheduled for follow-up without a separate referral. Recent Reviews
I have been a patient at Group Health Dental for over 25 years, and it's disappointing to say that my recent experiences have been some of the worst I've had there. While the office may have new equipment and updated technology, it's the people behind the equipment who make the difference, and lately that difference has been lacking. My temporary crown came loose again within hours of being reattached, leaving me unable to chew properly and worried about causing problems with other teeth. I have also felt that too much attention is placed on discussing costs and payments, while patient concerns and comfort are treated as secondary. After 25 years of loyalty, I expected better communication, empathy, and care. I truly hope management takes these concerns seriously and remembers that good dentistry is not just about technology—it's also about compassion and the patient experience.
Have to really find another dentist, they are forever finding issues in your mouth to cost you money. Total mouth issue this time is over $3700 this is ridiculous, seniors don’t have that kind of money. And they always have new dentist, the others are leaving, seems to tell me something.
Friendly knowledgeable dentist and dental tech but there was a problem with the lab they delivered some one else’s dentures and after speaking to them they had no idea where the proper dentures were we had to repeat the process over again
I had an "emergency extraction done" cuz my past dentist in the bronx did a so-so job on my lower bridge, i never went back. Group Health did the extraction w/minimal pain & inconvenience. The x-ray process was easy. The staff is friendly & my doctor has nearly 30 years experience. It was the opposite of my old dentist. & they have refreshments & the office is very clean which are pluses compared to my old dentist. Glad i found these guys.*update*6/29/2026 *..staff is still friendly & helpful. My new doctor is very knowledgeable & caring.
I scheduled a cleaning, I have 2 insurances, so I was told it would be free. But then was told I needed a special oral rinse for each quadrant of my mouth which would cost $30 each. Ok paid the $124 extra, during the cleaning, the hygenist said I needed antibiotic injections because I had deep pockets so I needed 3 injections of that which cost $125 each, so I believed her so I took them. My final cost for a cleaning was $505! What a shock that this was the final cost. I GUESS THIS IS HOW THEY MAKE $ by nickel and diming people. How dissappointing this is how they operate. Never spent that much $$ on a cleaning in my life.
I had a great first visit at Group Heath Dental 6 months ago. Because of that visit, I debated writing this review. But during my latest visit for a cleaning, they took X-rays and I was told I had a cavity that needed to be filled. I scheduled to return the following week to take care of it. When I returned, I was prepped with a numbing shot and the “filling” process began. Lots of drilling later, WHILE I’m in this very vulnerable position of being prodded and poked for 30 minutes, the doctor stops and tells me that I need a crown instead of a filling… I immediately begin to have a mini panic attack. I almost couldn’t even afford to get the filling, and I know a crown costs more. Even though I can barely speak, I manage to ask how much that costs and he sends the finance person in, who tells me it’s $1600. I manage to tell HIM I don’t HAVE $1600 for a tooth. He tells me I can do a payment plan. I manage to tell him That’s not in my budget!! And because my mouth is numb and bloody, I can’t even communicate properly. My mini panic attack goes full tilt, and suddenly I’m crying inconsolably with tools in my mouth. They have to stop the work. I feel like I’m being bamboozled WHILE in a vulnerable position. Imagine having a surgery and they cut you before reading the X-rays right. They leave the room while I try to gather myself, and he returns and tells me he can do the filling but it may fall out at any time and to avoid chewing on that side. I let him do what I can afford to get done- a filling. The dental assistants were sympathetic, but that didn’t help much. I just wanted to get out of there asap. I head back to work. And now, weeks later, I still feel nerves in my mouth and my whole left side is sensitive to warm, hot and cold. I feel so traumatized. So I decided to at least honor my truth and write this review instead of walking out, paying them, and still having to find another dentist I can trust to fix this.
I’m. not a big fan of going to the dentist, however after my 2 visits with Group Health Dental, I have to say I will be going for my 6 month and yearly check up’s more consistently. Dr Joseph and Jose worked on my teeth and it was such a pleasant and good experience! My teeth are saying thank you as well as myself! They both put me at ease where sitting in that seat with drills going full blast can be so daunting, they both put me at ease and I trusted them both as they showed their expertise. They both educated me what was going on with my teeth, where I knew exactly what was going on which is so necessary for patients. They explained everything step by step. I will and already have, be recommending my family and friends to come to this dental office! Dental hygienist Irina was the best with deep cleaning and I highly recommend her as well! My co worker recommended her to me and I will also have to agree and will be recommending Irina to my family and friends as well. Thank you for the great work you all do!!
I found my place!…..Dr. Kim is hands down amazing!! She explained thoroughly, answered my questions, was understanding of my anxiety, and just professional at every turn. To top it off, her assistant stepped away to manage another patient and Dr. Kim proceeded to complete my treatment on her own without missing a beat! I was extremely impressed and grateful for her knowledge and expertise. I felt no pain and she literally lifted my spirits by fixing a problem tooth I’ve had for decades! I am so grateful to her and this practice. The staff is professional, efficient, and just all around amazing! I recommend you give them a try!
I had a great experience at Group Health Dental for my visit. I was seen promptly, all team members were kind, and my cleaning with Irina was excellent and thorough. The doctor was willing to answer my questions and was very pleasant. I would recommend this place to others. They have lots of services as well, and offer them at reasonable prices.
The entire staff is very professional, friendly and goes above and beyond with their service. You walk away every time feeling confident that you received the best possible service, and it’s very rare to find that level of consistency nowadays. For my most recent visit, Dr. Islam was very thorough, caring and ensured I was ok throughout my procedure. By far this is one of the best practices I’ve been to.
Best dental office I've ever been to. Been going here for years. Front desk: Everyone at the front desk for YEARS has been awesome. So kind, compassionate, professional, and truly great people. I've always been greeted with such a warm welcome every time I check in. They are so communicative and clarify everything regarding coverage, appointments, etc. X-Rays: A breeze. Never uncomfortable or a long wait. The employees make the process as easy as can be. Hygienists: Very gentle and do a great job. I get a cleaning done almost every 6 months and they have me leaving the office with my teeth feeling very clean and bright without using any harsh chemicals. Dentist: She is very thorough in explaining exactly what is going on in my X-ray and even the bone density in my teeth. They go as far as to show me with their tools and the mirror what exactly they're talking about and I love the transparency. They also referred me to a great oral surgeon who accepted my insurance fully to remove my wisdom teeth. That oral surgeon was Dr Gary Ruth and the process and healing was such an ease. They did an amazing job and I'm grateful for their referral. Office: A nice beautiful, clean, sleek and modern office. I absolutely love this dental office and recommend it to everyone I know.
