About Healthy Roots Dentistry

Healthy Roots Dentistry is a dental practice on East 61st Street in the Key area of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit. What is holistic dentistry?
It is an approach that considers oral health in the context of overall health and tends to emphasise material choices and conservative treatment. The underlying clinical standards for diagnosing and treating dental disease remain the same.
Do holistic dentists use fillings without mercury?
Practices describing themselves this way typically favour tooth-coloured composite and ceramic materials over amalgam. If material choice is your reason for choosing a practice, it is worth confirming directly what they use.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

As usual, we loved our time with everyone involved. Megan was patient and Dr Garrett was realistic but kind. Everyone up front was kind.

Dr. Garrett and his staff do excellent work. His careful techniques developed from pediatric dentistry really make it a pleasant experience for adults. Very skilled and knowledgeable in healthy procedures and avoids toxic substances. Great experience and follow through. I highly recommend Healthy Roots!

Really enjoy this dentistry. They've talked about things with my teeth I've never heard in 55 years. They obviously care more about the health of a person than the dollars. Appreciate them.

Healthy Roots was recommended to us by some friends after we had an excessively large estimate given to us for some tooth work for on family members. From the initial phone call to our office visit, they were incredibly helpful, answering all my questions and being very transparent on pricing. They took the time to educate us and I feel we got better quality care than from previous experiences at other dental offices. Their prices fell within our budget and we were able to get the rest of the family in as well! Such a blessing! Thank you Healthy Roots!

I cannot say enough good things about Healthy Roots Dentistry. I have pretty high anxiety due to past procedures that were traumatic, so going to the dentist is never easy for me. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel completely comfortable and safe. The entire experience was wonderful. The hygienist was so reassuring and patient with me throughout the appointment. They truly took their time and made sure I felt okay every step of the way. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and kind. Not once did I feel judged or brushed off for being anxious which sadly has happened to me at other offices. They genuinely listen to your concerns and treat you with compassion and respect. And best of all my tooth pain is completely gone now! 🙌🏼 I finally feel relief. 💛 Thank you.

Just wanted to share my great experience with Healthy Roots Dentistry. Had my teeth cleaned and I have to say it was the best experience I've had with a hygienist. Stephanie did an excellent job and I was very comfortable and pain free. I highly recommend them for your dental needs.

Thank you so much for my fillings today. It only took a few minutes. And Happy Birthday, Dr. Garrett, very much appreciate you! I have had several procedures with Healthy roots; they're as gentle as possible, keep me in the loop, and I feel very comfortable with them.
