About Highland Pediatric Dental
Highland Pediatric Dental operates on Walter Reed Road in the Douglas Byrd area of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway. Entire staff was friendly. Enjoyed the visit. Excellent dentist for small children
Really great dentist office, the whole staff were nice & welcoming! Would definitely recommend 💗 my 18month old loved them as well.
Our first visit went phenomenal. The ladies at this facility are so kind and sweet. They were so welcoming and patient with my son. We had the pleasure of working with T and she made this experience so easy and relaxing for my little one.
We have been with Dr. Stokes and her staff for over a decade. They have shown great patience and love when providing services for my children.
Today was Grace’s (2 years old) first visit to the dentist office and they made her feel very special. They talked directly to her and explained what they were doing and why . Explain about cleaning her teeth and had her excited about her visit. Staff were very professional and friendly.
Dr stokes and Rita(dental hygienist) they are both amazing! The whole office is amazing! I originally went in for one of my childrens appointment and they ended up seeing both! The communication and everything was great!! Highly recommend🤍
I cannot say enough wonderful things about our pediatric dentist and her incredible team. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with genuine kindness, professionalism, and a level of care that immediately put both my son and me at ease. The facility is spotless, beautifully maintained, and clearly designed with children and families in mind. Our dentist is truly one of a kind — an old-school doctor in the best possible way. She takes the time to listen, explain, and treat each child with patience, compassion, and expertise. My son has extensive dental needs, and her knowledge, skill, and calm, reassuring approach made all the difference. She never rushed us and always made sure we fully understood the treatment plan, which gave us complete confidence in her care. It is rare to find a provider who combines such high-level clinical excellence with genuine warmth and integrity. Every single staff member we encountered was attentive, kind, and professional, making what could have been a stressful experience feel smooth and supportive. We are beyond grateful to have found a pediatric dentist who not only delivers phenomenal dental care, but also truly cares about her patients and their families. I would highly recommend her to any parent — especially those whose children have complex or extensive dental needs. This practice is an absolute gem.
