About Implant & Periodontal Therapy - Tampa - Richard A. Rasmussen Jr., D.D.S.

Implant & Periodontal Therapy - Tampa - Richard A. Rasmussen Jr., D.D.S. provides dental care on West Bay to Bay Boulevard in the Palma Ceia area of Tampa, Florida. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment. You can reach Implant & Periodontal Therapy - Tampa - Richard A. Rasmussen Jr., D.D.S. through this page to ask a question, check current availability, or request an appointment.

What is a bone graft and why might I need one?
Bone shrinks after a tooth is lost, and if there is not enough left to anchor an implant, grafting rebuilds the volume first. It is a common preliminary step when a tooth has been missing for a long time.
How long do dental implants last?
The implant itself is designed to be permanent and frequently lasts decades. The crown attached to it is the part more likely to need replacing over time, and implants can still be lost to gum infection if cleaning is neglected.
How can I look after my teeth between appointments?
Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between the teeth daily covers most of it. Limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount consumed.

Amazing experience from start to finish. The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, and the doctor truly made me feel heard and cared for. He was incredibly kind, patient, and took the time to listen to every concern. I was a little nervous having g the procedure done but the doctor made me feel very comfortable. I absolutely love my results so far and couldn’t be happier.

I recently had the privilege of being treated by Dr. Rasmussen at Implant & Periodontal Therapy and his exceptional staff, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From start to finish, the level of professionalism, care, and genuine concern for my well-being was outstanding. I came in for a crown tooth lengthening procedure that needed to be redone after it was originally performed by the Tampa VA Dental Clinic. From the moment I walked through the door, the entire team made me feel completely at ease. They explained every step of the process thoroughly, answered all of my questions, and made sure I was comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure. Dr. Rasmussen’s skill and attention to detail were evident, and the results speak for themselves. What impressed me even more was the personal touch—he personally reached out to me the evening after my procedure to check on my recovery and ensure everything was going well. That level of care is rare and deeply appreciated. If you are looking for a periodontist who combines top-notch expertise with compassion and a truly patient-centered approach, Dr. Rasmussen and his team are the best in the field. I am grateful for their outstanding work and highly recommend them to anyone in need of periodontal care.

Not sure what's changed with this office.. doesn't seem like there's a front desk anymore but his wife answering the phones but you guys will end up losing more patients if this is how business is handled.. I was willing to pay the high amount given and do whatever to be seen. I wish Carolina would have told me the first phone call that I was dismissed for no absolute reason when I haven't been there in over a year due to moving. Dr. R did my procedure and I've been in pain and had concerns and I was told by my basic dentist I've gone back to, to go to the Dr. that did my procedure but was told no and was told I have another perio when I don't at all but great excuse to give me.. anyways good luck to this office and Dr R. I wouldn't recommend this place ever so way to make the dental world suck, uncomfortable and feel unwanted with patient matters.

Dr Rasmussen and his team were absolutely amazing to me. With my gum grafting surgery. I was definitely nervous for my surgery but they all made me feel very relaxed and calm. I NEVER felt a thing. Quick and easy procedure. And in about 10 days I'll get my stitches removed. I'll be able to see the amazing outcome. ( he said it's going to look really good) right after the surgery. Lots of healthy gum tissue. (On the bottom front teeth canine to canine) .. and im only about 29 hours after surgery and I barely feel anything no pain just a little sore. Only taking 800mg ibuprofen. I recommend him and his team for any surgery you'll need. You'll be in God's hands w him. 🙏
