About Islands Pediatric Dentistry
Islands Pediatric Dentistry operates on West Elliot Road in the Oasis At The Islands Professional Plaza area of Gilbert, Arizona. Clear aligners straighten teeth through a series of custom, removable trays, each worn for one to two weeks before moving to the next in the sequence. They suit mild to moderate crowding and spacing well, and are worn roughly twenty to twenty-two hours a day for treatment to stay on schedule.
Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.
Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.
A professional cleaning removes the plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing cannot reach, particularly along the gumline, and is the core of routine preventive care. Most people benefit from a cleaning roughly every six months, more often for those managing gum disease.
Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.
Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment. ⭐️ I’m updating my review from 5 stars to 1 star after a very disappointing experience. I previously said this was the best dentist for kids I had ever been to, but unfortunately, my experience has completely changed. During our last visit, the doctor told my daughter that he hoped to find a cavity because he felt she wasn’t brushing adequately. I immediately told him that I did not feel it was appropriate to speak to my daughter that way, and I also brought my concerns to the front desk. Unfortunately, I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously. As a parent, I expect my child to be treated with kindness, encouragement, and respect—especially in a dental office where children can already feel anxious or uncomfortable. This experience was extremely disappointing, and based on how the situation was handled, I would no longer recommend this office to anyone. Previous review :This is by far the best dentist for kids I’ve ever gone to! The doctor is super nice and he did my daughter tongue tie and he was very good with my daughter and made it way less scary!
1st time here have 2 younger children. Love the set up and amenities to keep them engaged and distracted. Everyone was extremely friendly and patient especially with our autistic son. It was his 1st time at the dentist and appreciated the care of the whole staff! It’s 30 mins from our home but worth it! Thanks for a great first experience! See you soon!
According to the Appointment time, I still have to wait another hour to see the doctor.
We absolutely love this office! Everyone is so kind, patient, and amazing with kids. They always make my children feel comfortable and at ease, and the entire staff is so friendly and easy to talk to. You can tell they truly care about their patients and go above and beyond to make every visit a positive experience. We’re so thankful we found them and would highly recommend them to any family looking for a wonderful pediatric dentist!
I have been bringing my children to this dental office since they were toddlers. They are now 10 and 14 years old, and after today's experience, I will never return. This is the second major issue I have had with this office, and it was serious enough that I have completely lost trust in their judgment and communication. At my daughter's appointment, I was told she needed medication applied to some surface cavities, a filling repaired, and that she had two loose teeth. A staff member reviewed the treatment plan and costs with me and asked me to sign paperwork. The way it was explained, the signatures were simply acknowledging the procedures discussed for that visit. During the appointment, I noticed blood and realized that two of my daughter's teeth had been extracted. At no point did anyone come to me beforehand to explain that they intended to pull her teeth, ask for my consent specifically for extractions, discuss alternatives, or explain why removal was necessary. When I questioned the office afterward, the explanation I received was essentially, "They were going to come out anyway." That response was completely unacceptable. Whether baby teeth are eventually going to fall out is not the issue. The issue is that a parent should be informed before teeth are extracted from their child, given a clear explanation of the medical reasoning, and allowed to consent to the procedure. To make matters worse, I was charged for the extractions despite never being informed that they would be performed. After years of being a loyal patient, I am extremely disappointed by the lack of communication, transparency, and respect shown during this visit. Parents deserve to know exactly what procedures are being performed on their children before they happen. Because of this experience, I can no longer trust this office with my children's dental care and will be taking my family elsewhere.
We are so happy with islands dentistry! We are new patients and they were very kind, understanding and informative. My kids don't handle dyes well, and they had options for them without dyes. I was hesitant about "twilight sleep" and they explained everything to me very clearly and gave me options. We opted for just nitrous for my 5 year old and they did amazing! Super gentle and patient. Diane was exceptionally great, singing to my child and playing with her hair and being very patient and kind. The dentist was quick, gentle, and efficient. I'm very happy here and can't wait to come back next week for my 3 year old!
I would recommend this dentist office to everyone but especially if you have a child with special needs. My son has autism and I have tried taking him to other dentist offices and they were not patient enough to get anything done but at Islands pediatrics they were so patient and explained everything to my son before doing it. We were able to get a full cleaning in and X rays! I also love that anaesthesia is done in office! I also take my children without special needs here as well and always have had a great experience.
We had a great experience! They started our appointment a few minutes I have to wait. The hygienist was very quick and efficient they build our insurance so no payment was due upfront. We will return soon for some teeth to be pulled and the estimate was very reasonable.. This was a huge relief! Our daughter has some special needs, and it is not easy to take her to the dentist.
