About Jeffrey Lu, DDS - ProHealth Dental Care

Jeffrey Lu, DDS - ProHealth Dental Care is a dental practice on Torrance Boulevard in Torrance, California. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth at the root, not just the crown — a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and, once it has integrated over a period of months, a replacement tooth is attached to it. It is generally the most durable option for a single missing tooth or several.

Cosmetic treatment is generally the least invasive branch of dentistry, built around changing how teeth look rather than fixing something broken. Whitening and bonding sit at the lighter end; veneers and reshaping involve more planning. Most cosmetic dental insurance excludes this kind of work, since it is elective rather than medically necessary.

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the space, and allows the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Its reputation for being painful is largely outdated — carried out under local anaesthetic, it typically relieves pain rather than causing it.

Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Professional teeth whitening uses a peroxide-based gel, applied under supervision at a strength stronger than anything sold over the counter, to lift years of staining from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco. It works on natural enamel only — existing crowns, veneers, and fillings keep whatever shade they were made in. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Do not go here. As other reviews have stated, the staff here is very personable and the office is pleasant and comfortable. However, the big "NoNo" comes later when their shabby professional ethics in relation to patients rears its ugly head. That's right...again these are not nasty, evil people. They are well meaning and try to be professional. Eventually, however, their naivete, shallow sense of integrity and lack of accountability shows up while you, the patient, will be blamed or destroyed to bear the consequences. For example, I was referred to this office by a local dentist. All went well at first. Then, I had a frightful time parking for my appointment in an otherwise ample lot under construction. Calling their office for help in this predicament proved useless. To arrive promptly for my appointment, I parked in an adjacent area that wasn't designated as an official parking space. Lo and behold, while in the dentist chair, the office manager allowed an unknown person complaining about my car to enter the office and approach me in the treatment room, as I was finishing up. Professional offices have an implied responsibility to provide appropriate service, confideniality and safety to clients while in their environs. Would you permit an unknown doorknocker to enter your home with little explanation to contact your mother, your son, your dog? But it doesn't stop there. Since the primary dentist owner, absent that day, agreed with my complaint, the office manager, Sandy, in order to protect her job, requested that the dentist dismiss me from the practice. But this dentist didn't know the details of the situation--that it wasn't Sandy inquiring about my car, but the stranger she allowed into the office to approach me during treatment. Of course, they can treat or not to treat, but it doesn't stop there. This dentist office then shared or somehow transmitted the bad press including appropriate patient file notes to an associate (different owner) neighboring dentist office to blacken my name as an undesirable patient. This is unauthorized violation of Hippa privacy and disclosure of information related to my patient file. It will be reported to the appropriate authoritie

by far the best dentists I’ve ever gone to. quick and efficient doctors, nicest and most accepting techs and front desk staff. love dr lu and dr sadie ! they treat you with respect and kindness and i’ve been consistently surprised (coming in 5 times or so) how amazing the energy in the room is. i’ve left with some ledges on fillings, but they were gone and polished by the next time i went back in. they work quick and smoothly. i always come in for morning appointments since i work throughout the day, so i love going at 8:30 and being out the door by 9:30. thank you for making the dentists office not scary and intimidating. i’ll be back !!

BEWARE OF INVISALIGN AT PROHEALTH DENTAL First, I want to give credit where it's due: the front desk staff and dental assistants are great, and Jeff, the dental hygienist, is gentle and professional. However, my experience with Invisalign at this office over the past two years has been deeply disappointing. I had just switched to ProHealth Dental and came in for a routine check-up and Invisalign consultation. I expected to receive information, but the dentist immediately took molds of my teeth and submitted my insurance--without giving me time to consider or sign any consent forms. I went along with it, which I now regret. From the very first round of trays, I noticed I couldn't chew properly. When I brought it up, Dr. Jeffrey Lu said it was normal and would improve as the treatment progressed. I trusted the process and continued. After completing my full set of trays, I still needed refinements--especially on a lower tooth. Dr. Lu had mentioned early on that I barely qualified for Invisalign due to my tooth spacing, and in hindsight, I likely wasn't a good candidate. I've now gone through five rounds of refinements, and my teeth are still not straight. After the first three, they charged $165 per additional refinement--on top of the $4,300 I already paid. When I asked about more refinements, I was told things like: "There's only so much plastic can do." "Sometimes it can only get up to 90%." "Are you sure you want another refinement?" Yes, I am sure. I got Invisalign to straighten my teeth. But the bigger issue came toward the end of treatment when I realized I still couldn't chew properly. I started researching and discovered Invisalign can alter your bite, preventing your back teeth from closing. That explained everything. My back teeth weren't touching, and I couldn't chew meat or fibrous vegetables. I can also see in the mirror that my bite was open. Dr. Lu never mentioned this was a potential side effect. At my next visit, I brought it up again. He checked and confirmed I couldn't close my bite, but said, "Well, one side is better." That wasn't helpful--I still couldn't chew on either side. When I asked for solutions, I was told my options were: 1. Grind down my front teeth 2. Add crown build-up to the back 3. Get orthodontic braces After two years of Invisalign, I now need braces? Dr. Lu then said Invisalign is mainly for aligning front teeth--not correcting bite issues--and that they weren't responsible for my back teeth. I was never told this when starting treatment. I wasn't given a consent form or warned about any of these risks, which I believe is malpractice. This is a general dental office, not an orthodontic practice. They take molds, send them to Invisalign, and that's it. Dr. Lu clearly lacks orthodontic expertise--I found more helpful info on Reddit than I did in his office. He also couldn't address the "black triangles" that formed between my teeth after treatment. When I asked, he said he could "barely see them" and brushed it off. If you're considering Invisalign, go to a licensed orthodontist, not a general dentist. If I had been told that Invisalign doesn't treat bite issues, I would've chosen braces from the beginning. They now claim they told me about these limitations "verbally," which I do not recall. I asked for signed consent paperwork at my last visit--they had none. I'm currently trying to negotiate a refund. I used up my one-time $1,000 insurance benefit and now need to go to an orthodontist and get braces, which will cost me several thousand dollars more. I believe I deserve a full refund for the lack of disclosure and poor outcome of my treatment.

If you are looking for a great dentist, do not look any further! Dr Lu and his staff do excellent, detailed work, with very little pain. I stayed with my last dentist for approximately 30 years, although I didn't particularly like his work, his procedures weren't very painful. I had extensive work that needed to be done right, so I sought out a new dentist. I didn't know where to start, so I selected Dr Lu's office, because he had high stars and simply because his name appealed to me. So far, Dr Lu and his staff have provided teeth cleaning, new vaneers, and given me the smile that I have always longed for. I must mention that the kindness and professionalism of his staff made me feel as though I had found my new dental home. Dr. Lu's office is the dental office that I have always wanted!

We have been going to Pro-Health Dental for years and every single time it’s a great experience. The staff in the front desk is kind, diligent and always greet you with a welcoming smile. There is no waiting time if you made an appointment and there are several cubicles with garden view so it’s so calming to be there. The space is organized, full of light, sparkling clean and comfortable. Dr. Lu is professional, experienced, kind and the best with people. He explains everything in detail so we can be fully informed. Hygienists are professional and friendly. Some members of the staff also speak Spanish, so it makes it easier for clients that need to communicate and are not fluent in English (it happened once with my father and he felt welcomed and a sense of relief). My children also love going to the dentist because they feel great there and say they don’t even feel like the doctor is fixing their teeth. Suggestion: It’s important to plan your visit moths in advance if you need a specific timeframe and Saturdays get booked fast, so planning is key. Thank you Pro-Health Dental team, you are the absolute best! Forgot to mention that parking is always available and free.
