About Kids First Dentistry

Kids First Dentistry operates on Roosevelt Boulevard in the Lakeshore area of Jacksonville, Florida. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Modern digital X-rays use a very low dose and are taken only when there is a clinical reason. They show decay between teeth and problems with developing adult teeth that cannot be seen by looking.
When do children start losing baby teeth?
Usually from around age six, continuing until roughly age twelve, though the timing varies widely between children. Adult molars also come through at the back around age six without any baby tooth falling out first.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

Second time coming here and left without treatment both times. They really push full sedation anesthesia for simple treatments. This was an emergency dental visit and I had to bring my son back home in pain no treatment, no pain meds, antibiotics, nothing. Will not be returning.

Great pediatric dentist office! Took my kiddos for their first dentist appts (7y and 3y) and it went better than I could have ever anticipated. We're new patients and we waited less than 5 minutes for the appt to start. The staff, technicians and dentist were all phenomenal. They got us in and out quickly with X-rays and cleaning all coming in right at an hour (maybe less). They coordinated their appts so they were seen at the same time and offered little toy treats post-cleaning. The kiddos can watch a TV show with headphones on while they get their teeth cleaned which is a wonderful distraction. Something I wish I had when I was growing up! Definitely worth it!

Kids First Dentistry is simply the best dental experience our kids have ever had. Dr. Mahajan and her staff are exceptionally kind and patient with our little ones, which really has made every visit a positive experience. The office is bright, cheerful, and clean and the service prices are reasonable. I highly recommended Dr. Mahajan and her wonderful team!

This dental office is wonderful for children, exceptionally clean, and the staff is very welcoming. The dentist is excellent, thoroughly explains procedures, and addresses all inquiries. It is a significant improvement over the previous dental office I used for my children. They do not attempt to overcharge for unnecessary services, and a notable benefit is that they submit all proposed treatments to insurance for approval prior to commencing any work. This ensures you are fully aware of your out-of-pocket expenses, which is incredibly beneficial.

We absolutely love kids first! They are genuine and care for all four of my children. We had to go in for my son’s tooth extraction and he’s a sensitive little guy but didn’t bat a lash the entire time. Every appointment we don’t have more than a 10 minute wait. They are truly a team of dedicated professionals for the precious little ones.

Had a great visit taking my daughter to the Dentist. Dr. Mahajan is always very kind and attentive. However, the receptionist that makes the appointments was very rude. I went to schedule my daughter's next appointment and she behaved as if I was bothering her and was reluctant to even fill out an appointment card. Other than that I cant complain.

Brought my 5&3yr old sons here for the first time and it was a great visit. Front desk lady was nice, and wait time was only a couple of minutes. The lobby was clean which is a plus. Latoya and Angela took great care of my kiddos making the visit pleasant. The Dr was nice, efficient and funny. Great staff all around, would highly recommend. Looking forward to our next visit.
