About Kids Smiles Pediatric Dentistry

Kids Smiles Pediatric Dentistry provides dental care on West Fletcher Avenue in Tampa, Florida. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. What does a paediatric dentist do differently?
They complete additional training focused on children — how teeth develop, how to manage anxiety and behaviour in the chair, and conditions specific to young patients. The practical difference is usually as much about handling the visit as the treatment itself.
How do I stop my child getting cavities?
Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, supervising until they have the dexterity to do it properly, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear during the day. Frequency of sugar matters more than the total amount.
What happens during a routine dental examination?
The dentist checks the teeth for decay, examines the gums, looks at any existing fillings and crowns, and screens the soft tissues. X-rays are taken when there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth.

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Sierra since she was 3 months and had her lip and tongue procedure done in office. We continue to go here for her dental care and we love it. Dr. Sierra is thorough and personable. We love Nadine at the front desk she is always so helpful and kind!

I’ve been taking my child to see Dr. Sierra for the last almost 13 years. Dr. Sierra and his entire staff has always gone above and beyond for my child. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this office. Huge shout out to Dr. Sierra, Nadine, Veronica, Maya, and I know there’s Names that I’m missing because his entire staff provides the upmost outstanding care. I wish I could give more than five stars. Thank you for your continued dedicated care.

We had an excellent experience at Kid Smiles Pediatric Dentistry for our daughter’s oral ties surgery. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel comfortable and reassured. The team was incredibly patient, kind, and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain the procedure and answer all of our questions in detail. The dentist was gentle and clearly experienced with oral tie procedures. They made sure my daughter was as comfortable as possible throughout the entire process. The procedure itself went smoothly, and the aftercare instructions were clear and easy to follow. What really stood out was the genuine care and compassion shown by everyone in the office. They checked in with us afterward and made sure my daughter was healing well, which I truly appreciated. I’m so grateful we chose Kid Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. I would highly recommend them to any parent needing specialized pediatric dental care, especially for oral ties.

I am writing regarding an issue with my son’s sedation appointment that was scheduled on February 10th for March 24th at 9:20 AM at the Fletcher location. When I arrived for the appointment, I was informed that the appointment time was 8:30 AM and that we would need to be rescheduled. I explained that my paperwork clearly stated 9:20 AM. After reviewing the sedation agreement that your office provided, your staff confirmed that the appointment time listed was indeed 9:20 AM. Despite confirming the error was on your end, I was initially told that the next available appointment would be April 28th, which is over a month later. Only after further discussion was the appointment moved up to March 31st. However, this still caused unnecessary inconvenience and disruption. I took time off work for this appointment, and my son missed school on his first day back after spring break, only to not be seen due to a scheduling error that was not my responsibility. This situation reflects a lack of accountability and consideration for patients’ time. When an error is made by your office, there should be reasonable efforts to accommodate the patient the same day. At this point, I am extremely dissatisfied with how this was handled. After March 31st, this will be my son’s last appointment with your office, as I need to seek care at a facility that manages scheduling appropriately and values their patients’ time. I would appreciate a response regarding how this situation should properly be addressed and take into consideration of parents work schedule.
