About Lafayette Oral Surgery - Chandler and Kelley
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is one of the few dental specialties most patients reach by referral rather than by search. Your general dentist spots an impacted third molar on a panoramic film, or a molar fractured too far below the gum line to be pulled conventionally, or a jaw that does not close the way it should, and sends the case to a surgeon with hospital-level training. Drs. Chandler and Kelley practise that full scope on Starling Lane in south Lafayette: dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, corrective jaw surgery, and the extractions general offices prefer not to attempt.
The question in front of most people before they book has more to do with sedation and staging than with the surgery itself. Wisdom teeth are the common example. You can have all four out in one appointment under IV sedation and take a few days off, or remove only the symptomatic side under local anaesthetic and come back later. The staff here are trained to assist with IV sedation inside the office, which makes single-visit removal practical, but it also means arranging a driver, fasting beforehand and clearing a recovery day. For implants, the parallel decision is whether the surgeon places the fixture and your own dentist restores it, a split that is common, works well, and needs both offices to agree on the plan before anything goes into bone.
Dual-degree training is what separates this kind of practice from a general office that also pulls teeth. Dr. Clay Chandler holds both dental and medical degrees, and the surgical range reflects that: pathology and biopsy work, facial trauma, bone grafting to rebuild a ridge that has resorbed after years without a tooth, and orthognathic surgery for patients whose bite problems are skeletal rather than orthodontic. Complex cases are usually planned jointly with an orthodontist, since jaw surgery sits in the middle of a longer alignment sequence rather than standing alone.
Scheduling here favours early risers. The office opens at 7:30am Monday through Thursday and at 6:30am on Friday, closing at 2pm, which is a genuinely useful slot if you want a wisdom tooth appointment finished before a weekend of rest. Starling Lane keeps the practice inside the 70508 corridor and within a short drive for patients coming from Broussard, Youngsville or Carencro. If you were referred, bring the film your dentist already took; a duplicate scan is not always necessary, and skipping one keeps both radiation exposure and cost down.

8/7/2026 - Great experience!
The experience with two infected teeth was greatly reduced with a nice environment, friendly, competent and helpful staff and Doctor Kelly explained the process and why and what to expect. Certainly is helpful when you’re having these difficulties. I’m so relieved about what is to come.
They were so great and explained everything in detail. I also greatly appreciated we had a care plan developed before leaving the visit.
Everything was very clean, all employees were very efficient and friendly. Dr. Brian Kelley was most pleasant and made sure all my questions and concerns were answered. The wait time was satisfactory! I give them a 5+ star rating. Merle Keith Tucker
The staff is AMAZING. From the time we walked into the door til the time we left everyone was nice and polite. The office itself has a very relaxing feel. The Dr. Chandler was absolutely awesome. He and his staff were very informative. No question was a bad question to them. At the end of the appointment we were escorted out so there was no getting lost. As far as the wait time and actual Dr's visit we were in and out between 30 to 45 minutes. I trust they will be great for my sons procedure. 10 stars Lafayette Oral Surgery. Thank you!
I am so glad I went here to have my wisdom teeth removed. Everyone from the office, billing, and medical staff was excellent. I had complications post surgery (not their fault) that they helped me with. They truly made a stressful experience so much less scary. Very down to earth people who truly care.
Dr. Chandler & his staff were awesome. The procedure went as planned. I have had many surgeries ln my 78 years, this is first time that I did not receive a post-op call or a follow up appointment after surgery. Shout out to Dre'. Thanks
One of the things I noticed immediately upon entry, was that the office was exceptionally bright and neat. I like the TV in the picture frame in the wait area and the space-age chandeliers. The entire space was very clean and high-speed. The staff was extremely pleasant and there was an overall ambience of genuine concern and care. I also thought the staff was incredibly thorough and very informative when I asked questions. There was almost no wait time which was very important. I absolutely enjoyed meeting with Dr. Chandler. He was engaging and pretty concise when speaking with me. I had a great experience.
