About Laudenbach Periodontics & Dental Implants

Between Broad and 15th, Locust Street runs thick with medical and dental suites, and this one is two minutes' walk from the Walnut-Locust subway stop on the Rittenhouse edge of Philadelphia's Center City. Laudenbach Periodontics & Dental Implants works out of Suite 600 at number 1520, has been family-owned for more than four decades, and carries a roster unusual for a periodontal office. Alongside periodontists Dr. Jay B. Laudenbach and Dr. Ishita Bhavsar, the practice includes Dr. Robert W. Slauch, a board-certified prosthodontist. That combination means the surgeon who places an implant and the specialist who designs what goes on top of it are working in the same building rather than trading emails across town.

Implant therapy at both ends of the scale drives the practice: a single missing premolar and a full upper arch, plus the periodontal groundwork that makes either possible. An implant is a titanium post that fuses to bone over several months, a process called osseointegration, and what determines whether it happens is the quality and quantity of bone at the site and whether the surrounding gum tissue is healthy. So the sequence often starts earlier than patients expect, with socket preservation at the time of extraction, ridge augmentation to widen a collapsed area, or sinus augmentation in the upper back jaw. Peri-implantitis, the inflammatory bone loss that can affect an implant years after placement, is treated here too.

On the periodontal side the office runs a Fotona dual-wavelength laser for TwinLight periodontal treatment and offers LANAP laser gum surgery as an alternative to conventional flap surgery, along with gum grafting for recession, crown lengthening and osseous surgery. Imaging and planning are digital throughout: Planmeca cone beam CT, a TRIOS intraoral scanner, Dexis radiography and an in-house Rapid Shape 3D printer.

Laser gum treatment is not a universal substitute for traditional surgery. Suitability depends on pocket depth and the pattern of bone loss, and that is a conversation for the examination rather than the phone. Hours run 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday with a half day on Friday. Parking in this block is metered and scarce, so allow extra time or take the Broad Street Line.

Family-owned specialty practice at 1520 Locust Street, Suite 600, near Rittenhouse Square. Periodontists Dr. Jay B. Laudenbach and Dr. Ishita Bhavsar work alongside board-certified prosthodontist Dr. Robert W. Slauch, so implant surgery and the restoration on top are planned together. Services span single and full-arch implants, LANAP and Fotona laser gum treatment, gum grafting, crown lengthening, sinus and ridge augmentation, and peri-implantitis care. Planning is digital throughout, from cone beam CT to an in-house 3D printer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What difference does having a prosthodontist in the same practice make?
Implant treatment splits naturally into two halves: the surgery that puts the post into bone, and the design of the crown, bridge or denture that sits on top. Here both specialists work in the same office, so the position and angle of the implant can be chosen with the final restoration already planned rather than discovered afterwards. It removes a common source of compromise where surgical and restorative decisions are made by separate practices.
Is laser gum surgery a replacement for conventional periodontal surgery?
Sometimes, not always. Laser protocols such as LANAP and the Fotona dual-wavelength treatment remove diseased tissue from the pocket and can avoid cutting and suturing a flap, which usually means less post-operative discomfort. Whether it suits you depends on how deep the pockets are, the pattern of bone loss and whether the defects are contained. That judgement needs a measurement of every pocket and current imaging, so it is not a question the front desk can settle by phone.
What is peri-implantitis and can it be treated?
It is inflammation around an implant that has progressed into the bone supporting it, and it can appear years after a successful placement. Bacterial plaque on the implant surface is the driver, sometimes helped along by a restoration that is hard to clean around. Treatment involves decontaminating the implant surface surgically and, in some cases, grafting the bone defect. Caught early it is manageable; left long enough the implant is lost, which is why maintenance visits matter.

I had such a beautiful experience with Laudenbach's office. I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Bhavsar, who had a peaceful and calming presence. She explained everything to make sure I was understanding and educated in what to expect. Her assistant Christina was so kind and had a beautiful personality. The front, Lita and Jessica, greeted me as soon as I came in with warm smiles and were all so kind. They walked me through clearly explaining what I could expect with moving forward. I left feeling well taken care of as if I were their own family or friend. I truly cant express my gratitude enough for their welcoming and calming presence! 10/10! :)

I had a gum graft done here and the experience went very smoothly. The staff was very friendly, professional, and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. Dr. Bhavsar took the time to explain everything in detail, made sure I fully understood what to expect, and answered all of my questions without rushing. My recovery has gone well so far and I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone needing periodontal work.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Laudenbach and his entire team. I had been dealing with severe pain for about a week and had already seen both a dentist and an endodontist before being referred to his office. From the moment I called, the experience was exceptional. Dr. Laudenbach got me in the same day for an emergency appointment, which was such a relief. He was incredibly thorough with his exam, took the time to explain everything clearly, and was genuinely kind and compassionate throughout the visit. The pricing was very reasonable, especially given the level of care, and he even stayed late to make sure I was taken care of. The office itself is clean, modern, and beautiful, and every single staff member I interacted with was warm and pleasant. His dental assistant was especially friendly and knowledgeable and truly helped put me at ease when I was in pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Laudenbach to anyone looking for excellent, compassionate dental care. I will absolutely be back and am so grateful to have found his practice.
