Long Beach Family Dental was my introduction to dental care as a child (around the years 2004-2008), and unfortunately, to dental trauma. Instead of comfort or kindness, I was threatened. That was just the beginning. The emotional impact was compounded by the fact that my mother (who was already abusive) used these appointments to berate and punish me. The dentist at the time, an Asian man, only egged her on with each condescending report. I was shamed for every cavity (yes, just cavities, like most kids get when they’re young), hit for every procedure she had to pay for, and even told my slightly yellowed teeth were from drinking chocolate milk. (??? What a reach.) This office did nothing to intervene. If anything, they reinforced the blame. A provider once told her that my braces were necessary, and instead of offering guidance or sensitivity, it became another reason for her to yell at me and accuse me of being “too expensive.” I now understand that my fear of the dentist was not irrational - it was a learned trauma response. I don’t flinch at anesthesia now, as an adult, not because of any sort of ”bravery” but because I’d been conditioned to endure far worse without complaint here. Even now, after seeing a new and far more compassionate dentist, I still get nervous walking through the doors. That’s what this office taught me: that pain was to be endured, not treated; that fear was a child’s fault, not the adult’s responsibility. This place isn’t just old-school - it’s shockingly inhumane. If you’re a parent thinking of bringing your child here, don’t. You genuinely might be better off going anywhere else. And if you’re part of the staff reading this: you may forget the kids you mistreat. But we never forget you.
Wish I could give zero stars! Filled out paperwork on line prior to my appointment and arrived 15 minutes early. It is a very clean office, however they suck at communication. Had a 10am appointment and sat there until I left frustrated at 10:30. When coming back from using the restroom, there was a guy who barely came in and signed in and was seen almost right away. There aren't that many people in the lobby waiting, no one at the front desk bothered to check or let me know about the appointment running a little late. Only after i drove away did I get a call that they were ready, by that time im halfway home and would rather just look for another dentist.
Came here for an emergency tooth extraction, and I have always been a bit squeamish at the dentist growing up. They are very friendly, straight to the point (no bs, which is part of why I’ve had such bad experiences in the past), and extremely patient. They take my Medi-cal and also filled a cavity while I was there, and I was a walk in and out in less than an hour. Highly recommend if you want great work paired with exceptional practices and attitude!
For me to give a dentist that many stars he's gotta be good. I hate dentist & I've had many mess up one left a file way up in my tooth dam near my jaw bone and put a crown on my tooth and said I would have no more pain. I told them just pull the tooth out they talked me into getting a root canal I never should have listened. But this dentist is good. I trust he's did a root canal and it was so much easier. My grandson goes to this dentist and he likes this dentist.
