About Long Beach Kids' Dentistry and Orthodontics

Long Beach Kids' Dentistry and Orthodontics provides dental care on Carson Boulevard in Long Beach, California. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. What does a paediatric dentist do differently?
They complete additional training focused on children — how teeth develop, how to manage anxiety and behaviour in the chair, and conditions specific to young patients. The practical difference is usually as much about handling the visit as the treatment itself.
How do I stop my child getting cavities?
Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, supervising until they have the dexterity to do it properly, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear during the day. Frequency of sugar matters more than the total amount.
What causes bad breath and can a dentist help?
Persistent bad breath most often comes from bacteria on the tongue and around the gumline, and gum disease is a frequent underlying cause. Because it is usually oral in origin, a dental examination is a sensible first step.

I had an emergency with my daughter and called the office, where I was greeted by Victoria. I can't say enough about how helpful and compassionate she was. She understood the urgency of the situation and made every effort to get my daughter seen the very same day. Thanks to her, we were able to get an appointment that afternoon. I want everyone to know that exceptional customer service truly makes a difference, especially these days. Victoria was kind, understanding, professional, and went above and beyond to help us during a stressful time. Thank you, Victoria, for your outstanding customer service!

We previously had a horrible experience at another dentist, but not here. This is a kid friendly place. Nathalie and Dr. Chow knew how to talk to both my kids and explained what they were doing and why.

We came in for my son’s biannual check up a couple weeks ago and Britney was amazing! She was super patient, attentive and kind to my son. She took the time to explain what she was doing during the cleaning and during the X-rays to him so he understood. It was greatly appreciated! We were so glad to have Dr. Chow again for the check up. She is very kind, takes the time to address any questions while providing helpful tips. We love Long Beach Kid’s Dentistry! If you are looking for a pediatric dentist for your little one, I highly recommend! :)

BEST KIDS Dentistry in the Long Beach area. Staff is always so nice, helpful, respectful, and welcoming. Dr. Chow is the sweetest and so calming. Shout out to Aldo who is just the best. He has such an amazing personality and very interactive with the kids which puts them at ease. He absolutely loves his job and it shows! He looks out for the best care for each of his patients and always, always keeps the parents informed and involved. We’ve been coming for about 5 years now and always look forward to his familiar face. … Thanks Aldo, always a pleasure! =) Also would like to point out that they are very accommodating. My middle child sees Dr. Shadi (who is also great) for her braces. They’ve taken her in last minute on 2 separate occasions when one of her brackets broke off (one of those times being a SUNDAY!) they also offer late hours for Orthodontics, which is amazing for working parents (gives us more options, which equals less stress). Thanks Staff =)

We've been coming here for several years and have always had a great experience. My two boys have seen Dr Carolyn Chow for many check up and cleaning visits and she's great with them every time. She's kind, thorough, and explains things well. The front desk and back assistants are friendly and patient too. They have individual TV screens at the dental chairs so my boys are always entertained. No issues getting them to come to their dental visits!

Today was the first time I took my 12 year old grandson to his orthodontist appointment. I was very impressed with how smoothly the office ran and how the professional, courteous, and friendly the staff was. I also noticed the waiting room had a Disney movie playing and there were crayons, coloring pages, books, and simple games available as well. Very happy with this office! Thank you

Honestly love everyone at LB Kids Dentistry and Orthodontic but Aldo and Dr. Chow are my all time constant favorite and now Britney is too. For years now they have taken such great care of my kids teeth, never push for treatments just to make a dollar, extremely gentle, and my kids actually look forward to going!! Thank you so much team, you guys make parenting just a bit easier. ❤️
