About Long Beach Orthodontics

Based on East Spring Street in the Los Altos area of Long Beach, California, Long Beach Orthodontics is a dental practice serving the area. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into alignment, handling complex bite corrections and significant crowding more predictably than removable alternatives. Treatment commonly runs one to three years, with a retainer worn afterward to hold the result.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Long Beach Orthodontics located in Long Beach?
Long Beach Orthodontics is on East Spring Street in the Los Altos area of Long Beach, California (90815).
What days is Long Beach Orthodontics open?
Long Beach Orthodontics is open Monday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Long Beach Orthodontics offer?
Listed services at Long Beach Orthodontics include Braces. The full list is shown on this page.
Will I need a retainer after braces?
Yes, and indefinitely in some form. Teeth have a persistent tendency to drift back toward their original positions, and retainers are what prevent years of treatment from gradually undoing itself.
How long do braces take to straighten teeth?
Commonly somewhere between one and three years, depending on how much movement is needed. Mild crowding resolves considerably faster than a case involving significant bite correction.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

Great customer service, beautiful office in a great location. I needed to replace my old Invisalign retainer. I called and got an appointment pretty quickly. Although I knew I had no ortho benefits, they checked my insurance before my appointment to verify. When I got there, they had a price breakout ready for me. I asked for an FSA ready bill and got one without having to explain what that bill had to contain. After I paid, I was scanned quickly and within 2 weeks, I was called to pick up my retainer. It was the smoothest process I’ve ever had with an orthodontist office. My daughter is now being treated by Dr. Hughes. I cannot recommend this office and Dr. Hughes enough.

I’m still honestly grossed out by the greed and attempted misrepresentation at this office. I’m very familiar with my insurance benefits and review them regularly. Before coming here, I had consultations at two other orthodontic offices who were transparent and confirmed my full $6,000 lifetime orthodontic benefit with Anthem PPO. During my consultation, Tina told me my insurance only covered $4,500, meaning I would need to pay $1,500 out of pocket. I immediately corrected her and explained that I had already confirmed with my insurance that $6,000 is covered at any in-network orthodontic office. She became defensive and asked how I could know that without preauthorization. After I explained again and showed her my benefits, she suddenly changed her tone, clicked around on the computer for a moment, and said she had read it wrong and that my insurance does cover $6,000, but then tried to adjust the pricing again by bringing up a deductible that did not apply. At that point, I stopped engaging. I went to a different orthodontist who used my full $6,000 benefit with no additional charges, and I am now in treatment with zero issues. Just a heads up to others to shop around and know your benefits. Transparency matters, and unfortunately this office did not demonstrate it.
