About Los Alamitos Periodontics & Dental Implants

Los Alamitos Periodontics & Dental Implants is a dental practice on Katella Avenue in Los Alamitos, California. Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. What services does Los Alamitos Periodontics & Dental Implants offer?
Listed services at Los Alamitos Periodontics & Dental Implants include Periodontics. The full list is shown on this page.
What is gum recession and can it be treated?
Recession is when gum tissue pulls back and exposes more of the tooth root, often from aggressive brushing, gum disease, or grinding. Grafting procedures can cover exposed roots, though how well that works depends on the extent of the recession.
Can a periodontist save a loose tooth?
Sometimes. If the looseness comes from bone loss around the tooth, deep cleaning and periodontal treatment can stabilise it, though the outcome depends on how much support has already been lost.
How often should I have a dental check-up?
Every six months suits most people. If you have gum disease or a history of decay a dentist may suggest coming more often. The point of regular visits is mostly to catch problems while they are still small and cheap to treat.

Dr. Aline Yaghsezian always puts me at ease. Her combination of knowledge and compassion make her the best. I feared dental work most of my life. She has taken that fear away.

Los Al Periodontists are the best! I felt welcome from my first visit. The staff is very polite and helpful. My latest visit was because I was in extreme pain, they were able to get me in the same day. I have seen 3 of the Doctors and each are very compassionate and explained everything thoroughly. I would highly recommend this office for any periodontal needs.

My appointment was with Mylene the hygienist. Mylene has been my hygienist for 15 years and she was my mother‘s hygienist for 20 years before that. She is always on time very thorough and truly cares about her patients. The office is always clean. Everybody is always professional, thoughtful and very friendly.

I cannot say enough good things about this office. The amount of time they take to explain everything to you in detail is just so amazing. The doctor and the whole staff i’m so kind and patient and willing to answer any question. They’d never make you feel rushed. I trust them very much and they’re very conservative and do not try to push treatment on you. I felt like I was always getting their honest opinion. I have never dealt with the dental office as good as this. I cannot recommend them enough.

My dentist of 20+ yrs highly recommended Los Alamitos Periodontics. Dr Jeffrey McCullough was extremely gentle, patient, and explained everything in detail. His staff was also very patient, calm, and I didn't feel rushed at all.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this team truly deserves it. I’ve now had my second oral surgery here, and both experiences have been excellent. From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel comfortable and cared for. The front office team is so kind. Shelby especially stands out for her warmth and helpfulness. Dr. Yi is incredible. She’s extremely patient, takes the time to answer every question, and is clearly very skilled at what she does. My first surgery was a year ago and everything healed perfectly, which made coming back for a second procedure an easy decision. Let’s be honest, dental procedures are never fun but this office makes the experience as smooth and reassuring as possible. I would recommend Dr. Yi and her entire team to anyone in a heartbeat.

Excellent. Dr. McCullough provided exceptional care throughout 3 separate procedures. He explained everything thoroughly and thoughtfully, so I knew what to expect and felt calm. His surgical assistant was fantastic as well, and his office staff were all so kind and helpful. I highly recommend Los Al Periodontics.
