About Los Altos Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics
Based on East Spring Street in the Plaza area of Long Beach, California, Los Altos Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics is a dental practice serving the area. Orthodontic treatment straightens teeth and corrects bite problems using braces, clear aligners, or similar appliances over a period that commonly runs from about a year to several years depending on the case. It is offered to both children, where early evaluation can catch developing issues, and adults at any age.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. Had a deep cleaning service here and everyone was very helpful and communicated all the tasks about to be performed in detail. I felt very informed and in good hands. My visit extended longer than anticipated but I would strongly recommend this team to anyone looking for a new dentist or dental services. I also appreciated the flexibility in scheduling follow-up and recurring appointments.
Excellent service and very uploaded to date equipment!
Expert dentist, carefully explains everything thoroughly.
Very nice and generous!
Great office atmosphere. The whole staff is very friendly and welcoming. Doctor explained thoroughly the issues I had and the front staff broke down my options. Overall I highly recommend this office!
I have been here multiple times and each time has been a great experience. I first came here for my child's check ups and she was seen by Dr.Hong. Even though this isn't specifically a pediatric dentist, he was great with her and she had a simple and smooth check up. The office itself is welcoming and clean. The front staff are always friendly and quick to answer any questions. I myself came for a check up and got recommended some necessary work. The breakdown was straightforward and the staff went over everything from the procedure to the insurance coverage. Overall very happy with the service and results.
Was an awesome experience at the dentist that I usually dread! Darlene was awesome and super informative checking me in. Dr. Hong got me all set up and informed on my gum and teeth health and set my worries at ease. Cannot stress how much better I feel and am looking forward to my next check in!
Highly recommend this office! Darlene was so nice from the moment you walk in to then after helping you out with the treatment I needed! Dr.matsuno is also amazing ! Didn’t feel much pain or sensitivity when I got my fillings and a crown done! Assistants were all so nice as well. AMAZING TEAM
First visit was excellent, and my new patient visit was a little atypical, I think. I had an urgent need to be seen due to nerve pain that was pretty raw to anything near it - cold, heat, pressure and even air. I called to ask for an emergency visit, got in first thing the next morning. Got full X-ray, exam, treatment plan, and full four-quadrant SRP (deep cleaning) all at that initial visit. I’m scheduled for oral surgery the next week due to advanced gum disease. I was nervous about insurance coverage due to past issues elsewhere. I went in already knowledgeable about what my insurance was and I picked this office because Dr. Matsuno was listed on my insurance directory. I was scheduled with Dr. Hong and I almost canceled because he isn’t listed on my insurance directory. I double checked with billing / manager Darlene and she confirmed that all the doctors there, oral surgeon and periodontist are covered by my insurance. Be sure you ask because depending on your insurance, it might not be clinic-wide and very specific to the provider if covered. Anisa, the X-ray tech, Alan, the hygienist, and a couple other staff I didn’t catch their names, were all sweet and professional. Extra kudos to Dr. Hong. He was very informative. I really appreciate how he explained my condition and prognosis, showing me the visuals, and allowing time for plenty of questions I had. I’ve got oral surgery scheduled next week, follow-up visit with Periodontist in March, and maintenance cleaning in May. Insurance covered about 65% and the rest I put on an 18-month 0% interest care credit account. They aren’t just general dentistry as I’m a patient with extensive work needed.
Office 10/10 from the front to the back! Manager Darlene is the sweetest and is very kind. She does a great job working with my work schedule and helping me out financially. Dr. Matsuno is very light handed and isn’t pushy to do treatment. I 100% recommend this office!
