About Martin Weintraub, M.D.

Martin Weintraub, M.D. operates on South Center Street in Westminster, Maryland. At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less. Dr. Weintraub has been my ophthalmologist for more than 30 years. For many of those years I had annual check-up visits. He was extremely thorough and spent all the time necessary for an exam and discussion about my eyesight. On several occasions he discovered serious issues, including rapidly developing cataracts and a wrinkle in my retina, and he referred me to terrific surgeons for each. They had a good working relationship with Dr. Weintraub and took care of me promptly with excellent results. About 11 years ago my wife and I moved from Westminster to Maryland's eastern shore. Even though it is a two-and-a-half hour trip each way to Dr. Weintrauib's office, we continue to see him as we completely trust his medical experience and abilities. From our experience, we know he is a doctor who cares about his patients and who spends the time to provide top-notch treatment.

Dr. Weintraub is an exceptional doctor who takes time with his patients, checking their vision carefully to make sure they get the best possible prescription. He also does an extremely thorough examination for eye health, and he explains everything clearly so it's easy to understand what's going on and what’s involved in any treatment he thinks is necessary. In my particular case, he was able to solve a problem in which a difference in nearsightedness between my eyes was so great that I would have had to have surgery on a healthy eye if he had not been willing to adjust my prescription in an unusual way, test the results, and then make further adjustments until it was just right. I also find Dr. Weintraub's staff to be very efficient and friendly, and his office is comfortable, pleasant, and conveniently located, with plenty of free parking. Update, September 2017: Some time after I wrote the comments above, I developed a serious eye condition that led me to have many more interactions with Dr. Weintraub. He clearly explained my situation and patiently answered my many questions. This experience has made me even more impressed with--and grateful for--his superb diagnostic and interpersonal skills.

I have been a patient of Dr. Weintraub for many years and choose to remain his patient because of the great care he offers for routine eye exams as well as for my long term eye health. I have always found Dr. Weintraub to be friendly & easy to talk with, knowledgeable about the care of my eyes and available to answer any questions I might have. I feel I receive outstanding care and service for a reasonable price and frequently recommend Dr. Weintraub to family and friends. His office staff is personable and quickly schedules appointments or follow-ups.

I have been a patient of Dr. Weintraub as well as my husband and now deceased mother-in-law for many years. I have found him to be completely professional and appreciate his chair side manner. Many times my husband or I have needed emergency visits and even though he has had a full schedule never did we feel rushed and he took the time to fully address our concerns and needs. He always takes the time to explain any new condition that may have arisen and helps to allay any fears such as up coming cataract surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Weintraub to my neighbors and friends.
