Mary's Center is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with a location at 100 Gallatin Street Northeast in Washington DC's 20011 zip code — the Brightwood Park and 16th Street Heights neighborhood of upper Northwest-adjacent Northeast DC. Mary's Center is one of DC's major community health organizations, originally founded in 1988 to serve pregnant Latina women without healthcare access. Over the following decades, Mary's Center expanded its services and patient base to serve the full spectrum of underserved DC residents — including uninsured, immigrant, and low-income patients who lack access to mainstream healthcare.
As a federally qualified health center, Mary's Center provides services on a sliding-scale fee basis, meaning patients pay what they can afford based on income. Dental services at Mary's Center sites cover preventive examinations, professional cleanings, restorative treatments, extractions, and emergency dental management — the core dental care that patients who lack private dental coverage need but cannot access through conventional fee-for-service private practices.
The Gallatin Street NE location serves the Brightwood Park community and surrounding 16th Street Heights and Manor Park neighborhoods — a mixed working-class and middle-class area in upper Northwest/Northeast DC with significant Latino, African American, and immigrant populations. Mary's Center at this address brings healthcare access to a community where private practice concentration is lower than in the commercial corridors closer to downtown.
The 100 Gallatin Street NE address is accessible from the surrounding upper Northeast DC street network, with bus service on 16th Street and the connecting neighborhood streets. For Brightwood Park and upper Northeast DC residents who need community health dental services without the cost barriers of private dental practices, Mary's Center at Gallatin Street provides mission-driven, sliding-scale care in the neighborhood.

This is the worse dental office I have ever went to. I came in for a cleaning and found out that it was a consultation. I then was told I had one cavity. I was scheduled to come back, on separate days, to get the cavity filled and cleaning. When I came back for the filling, I was then told that I had two cavities and needed to schedule another appointment for the 2nd cavity. I asked why no one did told me that the first visit, I was told that I have to pay $60 for each visit when I have never paid that much in co pay. I was also told that the office only takes 30 minutes appointments so getting my filling felt rushed. The only reason I came to this office was because it was recommended by my job as a preferred in network office. It also seemed that this is an office for lower income patients or patients with assistance. That is fine but why am I paying more for my visits than I would at a private dental office. I also wanted about an hour on my first visit. This is not a good office if you have a job.
Dr. Stinfil has been an amazing pediatrician to our sweet little babe. She is very patient with all of our first-time parent questions then takes time to make sure we know our baby is just fine. Highly recommend.
I only come here because it’s close to where I live, but if you use the sliding scale discount, be aware that they may charge you even for simple questions. They often require you to schedule a virtual appointment with a doctor, physician, or midwife and charge you each time, even if the call only lasts about four minutes. I tried asking a simple question through their portal, but instead of answering it there, they made me schedule an appointment that wasn’t necessary. Other than that, the service is okay it helps they’re affordable but wait time is long.
My appointment was at 3pm, I came in on time, I was given my number as usual and then the doctor asked that I wait in the lobby to take some test from the lab. I asked the red hair girl at the lobby if she had my name she said no. I sat down again and waited. Asked a front desk lady if I would be called soon, she said shortly. It was already 4:45pm when that happened. I asked again around 5pm if my name was being called to this young lady in a red hoodie, she said she was on her break but she would ask which I really appreciated. Turns out the lab people “didn’t see my name” even tho I was the ONLY person sitting and waiting plus my name was literally on red when the doctor showed me the system. Then the lab lady asked me if I can come back tommorow since the lab is closed. As I am leaving and it’s 5:30, all I hear is her laughing when I waited hours to get attended.
I went the Mary's Center for dentist and I like there keep my teeth clean for every 6 months. Nice clean area and friendly people. Thank you.
I only come here for dental. I travel all the way from Towson. Dr Calhoun makes my dental experience great every time. She’s great at her profession. The staff at the front are all nice as well.
The service is terrible, they take too long to attend to me and without doing anything, I asked how long it would take to see me, she responded rudely that she was very busy. It's not the first time this has happened to me. The doctors and the pharmacists are excellent, but the secretaries are awful.
I came in for my bi-annual routine cleaning. In a span of five minutes, the dentist examined my teeth, noted they looked fine, and told me I needed to schedule another appointment for the actual cleaning. Why didn't they just clean it then and there? Then the front desk noted they could book me for an appointment later that afternoon, which was too short notice for me. Now, I'll have to wait until next month for another slot. Only positive was that the dental assistant was very nice.
Came as a walk-in to the dentist for a bridge. Despite the bad reviews for the dental aspect, the service was attentive and effective despite not even making an appt. I was so happy after running around to multiple dentist that for some reason did not accept DC Medicaid (what’s the point of free healh insurance if no one accepts it like a regular PPO!) Regardless, the lovely people at Mary’s Center (Georgia Ave-Petworth) provide me phenomenal care and service!
