About Michael Richards Orthodontics - Salt Lake City
Drivers coming down Parleys Canyon pass within a block of this office before they reach the Sugar House exits. Suite 100 at 2455 East Parleys Way runs alongside I-80 on the frontage road, just west of the I-215 interchange, and that geography is the practical argument for the address: a five-minute detour for anyone commuting between Park City and the valley, and equally quick from Foothill Drive, Wasatch Boulevard, East Millcreek, and the Sugar House and Yalecrest neighborhoods. It is less convenient from the west side, where the 3300 South and 2100 South approaches both add time. Appointments run Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the practice keeps a text line as well as a phone line, which is genuinely faster for a broken bracket question.
Dr. Michael Richards has practiced for more than thirty years and is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, a voluntary step beyond licensure that requires submitting completed cases to a panel of examiners who judge the finished result rather than the plan. The toolkit covers metal and ceramic brackets, self-ligating systems, Spark clear aligners, two-phase treatment for growing children, and both fixed and removable retainers. One appliance worth explaining is the Carriere Distalizer, used for overbites where the upper teeth sit too far ahead of the lower. A small bar is bonded from the upper canine to the upper first molar, and elastics worn down to the lower arch walk the entire upper back segment backward as a single unit, typically over three to five months, before braces or aligners go on. It only works if the elastics are worn, because the appliance supplies no force on its own.
Digital scanning replaces impression material, 3D imaging supports planning, and Dental Monitoring tracks progress remotely between visits. Temporary anchorage devices are available where a movement needs a fixed point in bone. Orthodontic emergencies, whether a poking wire, a lost bracket, or a broken retainer, are handled directly rather than folded into the next routine appointment. Spanish-language support is available, initial consultations are free, and a payment calculator on the practice site gives a rough monthly figure before you commit. A second office serves Riverton.

Our whole family has LOVED Richard’s Orthodontics! Dr. Richard takes the time to truly get to know each patient and makes every visit feel personal and comfortable. We’re so grateful for the wonderful care and attention our family has received!
I just finished two years of clear aligners, and I couldn’t be happier with my results! It was such a great experience from start to finish. Dr. Michael Richards and his entire team were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive every step of the way. They always made me feel comfortable, took the time to answer all of my questions, and truly cared about my progress. Thank you for everything!
Went here when I was 16, came back at 30 to fix a retainer and it’s still great! Kindest people and great care.
They did a great job fixing my teeth. Not hard to make an appointment when you need to come in. They have coloring pages in the office if you have a velcro girlfriend (or a kid) like me that comes everywhere with you and needs to be occupied. 10/10
Obsessed with this place. Everything about it is SO good for my son. Won’t go anywhere else for ortho care!
Dr. Richards and his colleagues are the best! Dr. Richards is friendly, puts you at ease and knows all there is about orthodontics. He patiently listens to your needs and provides well thought out solutions. I’ve always been happy with the service that I’ve received and at a fair price.
Dr. Richards is the best orthodontist! He is very attentive and is very personable! His knowledge is outstanding! I have recommended many friends and family to him.
I came here in with braces because I moved states and my braces were in bad condition. But they repaired my teeth looks like I been going to them the whole time. I am so happy with my smile and have gained a lot of my confidence back. Michael Richard and his staff are the best. They were so welcoming and never judge I don’t what i would’ve done without them.
I cannot say enough good things about everything regarding my treatment at Dr. Richards' office! My case was complex, requiring jaw surgery (that I'd known I needed since I was a teenager) and some veneer work. Given the professional nature of my career, having Invisalign (or a similar product) was a requirement - Dr. Richards did an amazing job at developing a plan, recommending and coordinating with my dentist and jaw surgeon, and ensuring my results were perfect. On top of all of this, I relocated for work near the end of my treatment; once again, he and his team did a great job of coordinating with me to fit me into the tight windows during which I was able to travel back to Salt Lake City to finish treatment. Amazing experience in every regard - and I always felt like I wasn't pressured or trying to be upsold. I paid a price that I felt was totally fair, especially given the complexity of my case! The last thing I wanted to share was that, as I was recovering from jaw surgery in the hospital (which was a process entirely owned by the jaw surgeon), Dr. Richards personally stopped by the first night (after my friends / visitors left for the day) and gave me a gift card to Jamba Juice and a card signed his staff! He totally didn't have to do that! Wanted to share that story as I think it reflects how awesome of a practitioner and person Dr. Richards is!!! Thank you so much Dr Richards and staff!!!
