About Mid-Kansas Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Mid-Kansas Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery operates on North Ridge Road in Wichita, Kansas. Oral surgery covers procedures beyond routine treatment — surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, implant placement, and bone grafting among the more common ones. The distinguishing feature is generally that tissue is opened and closed as part of the procedure, rather than treated at the surface.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers surgical conditions of the face, jaw, and mouth, from wisdom teeth and jaw realignment through to facial trauma and reconstruction, carried out by surgeons trained in both dentistry and surgery.
Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.
Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.
Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.
Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. The surgeon and clinical care itself were fine; however, the billing and administrative side of the practice has been very disappointing. I have been trying to resolve an issue involving a refund of insurance payments due to our two dental insurance plans, and it has been an ongoing challenge. I’ve received multiple delays and explanations, but there has been little progress. In fact, if I had not repeatedly followed up, I’m not confident we would have any resolution or clear answers even 6–9 months later. We are still currently waiting for a resolution. At this point, the lack of communication and follow-through has been frustrating and unacceptable.
Basically, cost me a hundred and fifty dollars just to walk in.And ask a question and leave...
On referral I made an appointment with Dr. Tingey to have a tooth extraction on Dec 22. I ask front desk if they were in network with my insurance ( instead of asking my insurance representative). I was told yes, that my co-pay was 20% and would have to pay it after having the procedure. Upon checkout I was told I had to pay the entire cost and submit a reimbursement form to my insurance on my own. I said the girl at the front desk (heavy set, blue hair) said I only had to pay the 20% and I was told " she no longer works here. You have to pay the entire amount. SHES SITTING AT THE FRONT DESK. I KNOW WHO I TALKED TO. Luckily my granddaughter had enough money to pay the entire cost. I submitted the papers to my insurance, got notification that I would receive a check within 10 days.. March 3. I called my insurance company and they said they had sent the reimbursement to MKO&M on January 6th. The representative made a 3-way call to MKO&M were told the financial and billing department was not available to leave a message. I called the next day (they're in Missouri) and the lady said yes they got the reimbursement on January 6th and wondered why they hadn't sent it to me. She messaged them, and I was told I would receive my money by Wednesday March 11th. She also said MKO&M is not in network with my insurance so my reimbursement would be $150. Today is March 11th and I haven't received my money yet. I am going to contact the BBB and lodge a complaint about their business practices. I noticed in reviews that there were others who are still waiting for their reimbursements after over a year. I will never recommend MKO&M to anyone.
Shouting from the ROOFTOPS that we 100% recommend Mid-Kansas Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Both locations were very clean and easy to find. It was also very easy to schedule. The communication was top notch. Dr. Tingey was so informational and kind. He answered every question our daughter had at her consultation with the utmost patience. She had her very 1st ever procedure today at the east location. Her nerves started to get to her and a couple of tears started to roll down her cheek. As Dr. Tingey was calmly explaining everything he was doing, he was also wiping every tear before it fell. I knew in that moment that our daughter was safe and going to be under the best care. Very impressed all around, human connection is everything. Thank you everyone down to the nurses and the front desk.. You are all exceptional. ❤️
Dr. Tingle took amazing care of us very thorough with what would happen during my wisdom tool surgery. Answered all my questions with ease.
My daughter Brooklyn had her wisdom teeth removed today! Very professional and friendly environment! A few hiccups with insurance on our end. The front staff and office manager handled it with ease. Enjoyed meeting Kristin marketing and communications manager in the front office. Great chat with her! Assistants were very informational and helpful. Dr. Gagnon was wonderful and completed the procedure in no time! Highly recommended!
Dr. Gagnon put me at ease immediately. He treated me with respect and explained my options clearly. My consultation was the best kind of doctor-patient experience. I know I'm in good hands.
