About Minnesota Dental Surgery

Based on Dupont Avenue South in the West Bloomington area of Bloomington, Minnesota, Minnesota Dental Surgery is a dental practice serving the area. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth at the root, not just the crown — a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and, once it has integrated over a period of months, a replacement tooth is attached to it. It is generally the most durable option for a single missing tooth or several.

Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Oral surgery covers procedures beyond routine treatment — surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, implant placement, and bone grafting among the more common ones. The distinguishing feature is generally that tissue is opened and closed as part of the procedure, rather than treated at the surface.

Bone grafting rebuilds jaw bone that has shrunk after a tooth has been missing for a while, most often as preparation for a dental implant that needs sufficient volume to anchor into. Healing generally takes several months before further treatment can proceed.

CAD/CAM restorations are crowns, veneers, or similar pieces designed from a digital scan and milled from solid ceramic on site, often allowing a same-day crown without the temporary and second visit a traditional lab-made crown requires.

At the core of a general dental practice is preventive and restorative care: checkups, professional cleanings, fillings, and screening for decay and gum disease before either becomes a bigger problem. It is the kind of appointment most people need on a routine schedule rather than only when something hurts. The staff is wonderful and they let you know exactly what to expect. I have had bad experiences in the past so I get very anxious for any type of dental work or tooth extraction. They made me comfortable from the moment I went back. And when I was done they made sure I knew exactly what to expect with the recovery and that if any problems came up I could call them 24 hours a day and leave a message and someone would get back to me right away.

The office was quite busy at the time of my appointment, but I didn't end up waiting more than about 10 mins after turning in my paperwork. I think I was called back around 10:06 for my 10am appt. The gal who took my chaperone and me back to the room was very kind, patient, caring, and made sure to explain everything we needed to know about my procedure (4 wisdom teeth + 1 molar extractions with IV sedation), aftercare, and things to watch out for re: healing. The dentist who came in to do the procedure was also very nice and made sure I didn't have any lingering questions before we started. After starting the IV medications, I was aware of my surroundings for maybe 45 more seconds. After that, I couldn't tell you whether I was awake or asleep, which was a HUGE plus for me. I had thought since it was just "twilight" sedation rather than general anesthesia/being fully "put under", I'd be fully alert and aware for everything. I personally was relieved to find out I was wrong, and that I'd end completely unaware during almost everything. There were one or two moments I felt a very mild sense of pain (I'm guessing that was when they had to get at one of my teeth that had bony impaction), and I do remember being able to verbally groan a little & indicate my discomfort, and they were great about acknowledging my reaction & reassuring me. Outside of that brief event, I don't remember anything at all until the car ride home. Overall my experience with this provider was completely positive. I have absolutely zero complaints. Would definitely recommend these folks for anyone needing tooth extractions!
