About Mission Oral Surgery and Implant Center

Dr. Justin Olsen runs a full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery practice in San Antonio, which in practice means an appointment book swinging from a nineteen-year-old's impacted wisdom teeth to corrective jaw surgery, facial injuries, facial pain and TMJ disorders. Breadth of that kind earns its keep when the problem you were referred for turns out to sit next to a second one — a joint that clicks, a bite that has been drifting for years, a cyst spotted on a panoramic film — because the assessment continues in the same chair instead of restarting in another office.

Wisdom teeth are the most common reason people walk in, and the variable deciding how straightforward yours will be is angle and depth, not age alone. A tooth fully erupted and upright comes out in minutes. One lying horizontally against the molar in front, or still buried in bone, needs sectioning and a longer recovery. On the lower jaw the roots can sit close to the inferior alveolar nerve, which supplies feeling to the lip and chin, and that proximity is exactly what three-dimensional imaging is used to measure before surgery rather than discover during it. Ask about dry socket as well. It is the usual complication, it tends to announce itself around day three, and the aftercare instructions genuinely reduce the risk if you follow them.

The implant side covers single tooth replacement through to full-arch All-on-X restoration, with bone grafting and ridge preparation for sites that have lost volume after an extraction. Intravenous sedation is provided in the office and monitored throughout, which is the difference between remembering an hour of surgery and remembering none of it. For longer procedures that choice is worth raising at the consultation rather than deciding on the morning itself.

The practice is at 15600 San Pedro Avenue, Suite 107, on the northern reach of San Pedro above Loop 410 in the Shady Oaks area, convenient from Hollywood Park, Castle Hills and the 281 corridor. The schedule is unusual and worth checking before you plan a day around it: appointments begin mid-morning Monday through Thursday, while Friday starts early, at seven, and runs into the afternoon.

Dr. Justin Olsen's oral and maxillofacial surgery practice on north San Pedro Avenue covers the full surgical range: wisdom tooth removal and complex extractions, dental implants from single teeth to full-arch All-on-X, bone grafting, corrective jaw surgery, facial injuries and TMJ disorders. Three-dimensional imaging is used to check root proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve before lower wisdom tooth surgery, and IV sedation is provided and monitored in-office. Schedule note: mid-morning starts Monday to Thursday, early Friday from seven.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery cover here?
More than extractions. Dr. Olsen's practice handles wisdom tooth removal and dental implants alongside corrective jaw surgery, facial injuries, facial pain and TMJ disorders, plus bone grafting and full-arch All-on-X restoration. The advantage of that range is continuity: if the problem you were referred for turns out to involve your jaw joint or your bite, the assessment carries on in the same chair rather than starting again elsewhere.
How risky is wisdom tooth removal near the nerve?
It depends on where your roots sit. On the lower jaw, the roots of third molars can lie close to the inferior alveolar nerve, which supplies sensation to the lip and chin. Three-dimensional imaging is taken before surgery precisely to measure that relationship, so the surgical approach can be adjusted rather than the proximity being discovered mid-procedure. Ask to see your own imaging and have the plan explained to you.
When is this office actually open?
The schedule is not the usual one, so check before planning your day around it. Appointments run from mid-morning to late afternoon Monday through Thursday, while Friday starts early, around seven in the morning, and continues into the afternoon. If you need a slot before work, Friday is the day to ask for. Intravenous sedation appointments generally need extra time blocked out on either side.

I should probably start by saying that I’m quite a coward at the dentist office. But, everyone here is just amazing!! I was at ease from the moment I walked through the door and worked with Lynda at the front desk. Everything was explained so well. The entire staff is so competent but truly kind as well. Gisselle and Josie also took very good care of me and the entire process of a tooth extraction and prep for my implant went off without a hitch! Dr. Olsen is the absolute best. Not only a spectacular surgeon, but a pleasure to chat with. So personable! I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else for this speciality! This office feels like family.

I am so glad our Dr. referred us to Mission Oral Surgery and implant center. Vanessa and Laura were incredibly helpful and sweet. They got us in and out quickly and answered all of our questions we had. We got my daughter’s surgery scheduled 3 days after we met with them. My daughter felt super comfortable and they allowed her to ask questions. I would definitely recommend them for any of your needs.

Dr.Justin Olsen and staff at Mission Oral Surgery are a wonderful group of people who make you feel that you made the right choice from the minute you step into their reception room. Even though I had received a preregistration package via email, I was presented with my completed admission for any unfinished business. It wasn't long after that process that I got called into the exam room to meet the Dr who was much nicer than I anticipated and my anxiety level quickly was reduced. From that point on, I knew I was in good hands. Thank you, Dr.Olsen and staff, I will be returning for future service if I should need to and will be more than happy to refer you to friends and family.

I’m very scared of any dental facilities, I get bad anxiety to the point I’m crying. This office is full of warm, friendly and dependable employees. Front desk was awesome. The assistants and dental staff and the oral surgeon were so comforting and were awesome, they put my mind at ease and really cared for me. I will definitely be going back for any future services! Amazing! Thank you all so much!

Dr. Olson and his team are awesome!! Henry is very personable and knowledgeable!! I had a full upper implant done and the recovery was much easier than I thought. I was nervous and expected some severe pain but I was surprised that the pain was kept to a minimum. Dr Olson and Henry had explained the possibility of bruising but even that was not as bad as I expected. I was treated with so much care and compassion! If at any point I need my lower teeth done Dr Olson and his team would be my only choice!!

I recently had a consultation with Dr. Olsen and had a very positive experience from start to finish. The office staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. A special thank you to Henry, Dr. Olsen’s assistant, and Claudia, who did an excellent job explaining the insurance process and answering all of my questions thoroughly. The office atmosphere was calming and comfortable. Since I suffer from migraines, I greatly appreciated how thoughtful and accommodating the staff was by keeping the lights dim in the room, which made a big difference for me. Overall, I felt well cared for, comfortable, and informed throughout my visit. I highly recommend Dr. Olsen and his team for their professionalism, kindness, and excellent patient care.
