About Model Dental Clinic

Skipping the dentist for a few years is rarely a decision. It is a series of postponements. Then a filling fails, or a tooth pulled long ago starts to matter because its neighbors have tilted into the space, and the appointment can no longer be deferred. Walking back in after a long absence takes a practice willing to sequence the work rather than reciting the entire list at you in one sitting.

Model Dental Clinic runs as a family general practice with an implant focus. Dr. R. Jennifer Atapour has been a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry since 2011, and implant work sits beside the everyday material: exams and cleanings, fillings, sealants, bonding, crowns, dentures, periodontal therapy, root canal treatment, extractions, veneers and whitening. Emergency visits are welcomed. The staff is bilingual in English and Spanish, and the office helps verify benefits before treatment begins, which is the practical difference between a plan you understand and a bill that surprises you.

Suite 105 at 9520 Berger Road puts the clinic in the southeastern corner of Columbia near Route 32 and the Guilford corridor, quick from Savage, Jessup, North Laurel and Laurel, and a longer trip from Ellicott City or the western villages. The office is open Tuesday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, and closed Monday and weekends. That four-day week is the main scheduling constraint here, so plan multi-visit treatment with the gap in mind rather than assuming a Monday follow-up will be available.

On implants specifically, the useful thing to understand is that the timeline is set by biology, not by the office. A fixture placed today integrates with bone over roughly three to six months before a crown goes on top, and if the site has lost width or height, a graft comes first and adds to that. Cost varies with the number of teeth involved, whether grafting is needed, and the materials chosen. If a gap has been sitting there for years, ask for a scan and a staged plan at the first visit. The answer for a recent extraction and a decade-old space is rarely the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have not seen a dentist in years. What happens at the first visit?
Expect an examination, X-rays and a conversation rather than immediate drilling. The purpose of that visit is to map what is actually present, meaning decay, gum condition, failing old work and missing teeth, then sequence it so urgent items come first and the rest is scheduled at a pace you can manage. Cleaning may be split across appointments if there is significant buildup below the gumline.
Is Spanish spoken at this office?
Yes. The staff is bilingual in English and Spanish, so consent conversations, treatment explanations and financial discussions can happen in either language rather than through a family member translating. That matters most for the parts patients most often misunderstand: what a procedure actually involves, what the alternatives are, and what insurance will cover. The office also helps verify benefits before treatment begins.
Does it matter how long a tooth has been missing before getting an implant?
Quite a lot, yes. Bone that no longer carries a tooth resorbs over time, and neighboring teeth drift or tilt into the space, so a gap from ten years ago often needs grafting and sometimes orthodontic space regaining that a recent extraction would not. A scan at the first visit is what separates a straightforward placement from a staged rebuild. Ask for the plan broken into stages.

I was referred to this dentist after complaining about my dentist and I'm s glad that I switched. This is a very welcoming, calm, and personal office. Dr. Atapour is a practical and honest dentist and makes you feel very comfortable. She is the one working with you the whole time and doesn't push you to do things that aren't in your best interest. She's the best!

I hate going to the dentist! But Dr Atapour takes most of the anxiety out of the visit for me. She does all the work herself, evaluation, x-rays, cleaning. She makes recommendations and is very informative. She has a gentle touch and a relaxing manner that puts me at ease. I’m a relatively new patient, but I plan to continue seeing the good doctor for as long as possible!

I took my mom to see Dr Atapour for an upper denture and I’m grateful I did! Dr A and her staff were very accommodating and polite. My mom is elderly and frail and she’s afraid of the dentist. But Dr A was patient and understanding. I appreciate her and her team for successfully making a beautiful upper denture for my mom!
