About Modern Periodontics

Modern Periodontics provides dental care on University Boulevard North in the Clifton area of Jacksonville, Florida. Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Modern Periodontics located in Jacksonville?
Modern Periodontics is on University Boulevard North in the Clifton area of Jacksonville, Florida (32211).
What days is Modern Periodontics open?
Modern Periodontics is open Monday and Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does Modern Periodontics offer?
Listed services at Modern Periodontics include Periodontics. The full list is shown on this page.
What is gum recession and can it be treated?
Recession is when gum tissue pulls back and exposes more of the tooth root, often from aggressive brushing, gum disease, or grinding. Grafting procedures can cover exposed roots, though how well that works depends on the extent of the recession.
When should I see a periodontist instead of a general dentist?
Usually on referral, when gum disease has advanced beyond what routine treatment is resolving — deep pockets, ongoing bone loss, or gum recession needing surgical management.
What causes bad breath and can a dentist help?
Persistent bad breath most often comes from bacteria on the tongue and around the gumline, and gum disease is a frequent underlying cause. Because it is usually oral in origin, a dental examination is a sensible first step.

07/09/2026 - Just had my teeth cleaned. The hygienist did a superb job. She spent a fair amount of time explaining things I can do to improve my dental care. I highly recommend this office for all periodontal work. I have been seeing DR Storch for a number of years. I have had gum surgery and from then on twice a year seeing for periodontal care. With their help I went from very bad gums to gums in fair shape. Recently had a tooth extracted at my dentist and had some issues, so had to see periodontist for additional care. Turns out I have more serious issue but rather than trying something out of his area of expertise he recommended me to an oral surgeon. It’s awesome to meet someone who worries more about my getting the right care than his making money. I highly recommend him to all.

I wasn't going to review for something minor, but it may help educate staff on patient needs. I recently called to see what the scheduling looked like for an emergency procedure I need. I was told I need an exam/consult before the procedure can be scheduled. That's understood. But understanding the timeline on the procedure is the important part, because I am trying to avoid waiting as I am in pain NOW. It was conveyed to me that they could not give me an idea of this, until after exam. As a non-insured client, it leaves me to gamble with paying an office fee to find out you cannot help me any sooner than anyone else. If this is your policy, I'd ask you to review it because I had no problems with any other periodontics office I called. Because of this, I am comfortable knowing that after my exam tomorrow, I will 'probably' be scheduled the following week with a different clinic. That's all. Is your schedule weeks or months out?

My dentist Dr. Cane Sears referred me to Dr. Storch at Modern Periodontics a couple of years ago. Dr. Storch is the best periodontist I could ask for. I know som people might say, “How many periodontists has someone really had?” In my case…more than most. I was in a car accident when I was 15 and have had jaw, tooth, and gum issues ever since. I had braces for five years as a teenager, multiple surgeries for abscesses and broken teeth, root canals, gum grafts, and most recently two years of Invisalign. So I’ve spent a lot of time in dental chairs. Dr. Storch coordinated closely with my dentist and orthodontist to create the best plan of treatment for me. He performed surgery to remove a broken tooth and rebuilt the area with bone and gum grafting. The healing has been incredible. After years of gum recession, I didn’t think it was possible to restore the bone and gum the way he did. The results exceeded what I thought was achievable. What stands out just as much as his technical skill is his dealing with patients. He has an excellent bedside manner and genuinely cares about getting things right. You can tell he takes pride in the precision and long-term health of his patients’ mouths. Katie, the office manager at the front desk, is also fantastic. She’s organized, helpful, and makes the entire experience smooth from start to finish. I can’t say enough good things about this practice. If you need a periodontist, I would absolutely recommend Dr. Storch and the team at Modern Periodontics.

Oh heck no. Place is very dirty, equipment that looks like it is from the 70's, stains on the ceiling, waited to see the doctor for 1 and 1/2 hours and then he didn't even know why I was there. They told me "oh, sorry," couldn't get my x-rays so would need to run the whole series even though it had only been 3 months. I declined and they miraculously found them within 10 minutes (good news, right!). The dentist came in only to ask me how much time I had that day, was I in a hurry? Apparently the 1 1/2 hour wait was going to be longer. At that point I had no trust in this man and I respectfully declined treatment and left. Not going to have surgery there! Not a chance.

Extremely friendly Doctor and team. I felt very comfortable while there and they came up with treatment/ solution options that can be completed quickly. Highly recommend!
