About Mohamed Ali, DDS

Mohamed Ali, DDS provides dental care on Sutter Street in the Union Square area of San Francisco, California. Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. I had a terrible car accident a few years ago and while I went on and off with a retainer, I would constantly lose them. Luckily Dr. Ali came along and was able to not only repair my smile permanently but worked with my current retainer and temporary teeth! I highly recommend Mohamed Ali for a 🥊 Knockout Smile

My experience with Dr. Ali, the founder of the "Implants Pro Center" dental clinic in San Francisco, was remarkable. Though many prominent periodontists were skeptical about the chances of my newly placed implant #5 succeeding, considering it a failure and advising its removal, Dr. Ali remained steadfast in his approach. He recommended a modern, less invasive method called the Laser-Assisted Peri-Implant Procedure (LAPIP). This advanced laser therapy addresses peri-implantitis, a severe bacterial infection associated with pronounced inflammation and bone deterioration around dental implants. The precision of the LAPIP treatment makes it particularly appealing. Not only does it alleviate discomfort and promote bone regrowth, but it also accelerates the healing process. In a pivotal moment during my treatment, Dr. Pechak from the Perio and Implant Center of Silicon Valley contributed significantly to the success of the Laser-Assisted Peri-Implant Procedure (LAPIP) by providing complementary gum grafting. This thoughtful addition to my care played a crucial role in the preservation of implant #5. The gum grafting served as an essential support, reinforcing the effects of the LAPIP procedure and helping to restore the health of the surrounding tissues. The collaboration between Dr. Ali and Dr. Pechak exemplifies exceptional dental expertise and innovation. Their commitment and skill transformed my circumstances, shifting what could have been a severe complication into a promising outcome. I am deeply grateful for their dedication, which ultimately turned my dental experience into a journey of hope and recovery.

I had an extremely frustrating and alarming experience on 12/02/2025 for a simple routine Exam and Cleaning (covered by my Cigna insurance). High Quote and Pre-Payment: I was quoted approximately $525 for a routine cleaning/exam and was required to pay $55 upfront (my portion) to begin the service. Rushed Service Denied: After performing the exam and X-rays (and using my insurance coverage), the dentist refused to perform the routine cleaning I paid for. I felt the clinic does not allocate enough time for patients, and the doctor’s excuse was that he "did not have enough time" to do the cleaning and I must be rescheduled. Financial Exploitation: When I tried to book another appointment to complete the paid cleaning, the staff refused to book me this year. The very next day, the clinic called me, aggressively pushing for a much more expensive "Deep Cleaning" procedure. They confirmed this would cost me an additional $400 - $500 out-of-pocket, while consuming all my remaining 2000 $ Cigna benefits. This confirms that their refusal of the basic cleaning was a clear attempt to avoid rendering a simple, paid service and pressure me into a much higher-cost procedure. My feeling is that their priority is money and not patient care or sufficient time allocation. Be extremely careful if you are a Cigna member.

Very disappointing. I have previously rated this Office 5 stars, and personally know Dr. Ali through common friend. I cut them slacks last time when they've installed an implant that didn't color match, but this time it was too much. Not sure, if this was done on purpose, or front desk just does lame job, however that is irrelevant. What is important is whatever happened today is absolutely unacceptable. I have called in advance and asked front desk clearly are they in my insurance's preferred network. They said yes. If they have said no we are not, I would have never ever scheduled a visit. Upon my arrival they asked me to pay $100 copay for non-rendered services ie checking up on my tooth and potentially xray. Which I instantly refused to pay and left, before any service was provided. Lady was stuck on her story that that is my copay, without further elaborating or explaining. I went home called my insurance and customer service rep told me that Dr. Ali is NOT in their preferred network. Just horrible. Why lying? This is the era of internet and social media, and reviews. I don't understand. But, for sure public needs to know about shenanigans like this. Nobody has time and money for the aggravating experiences of this kind.

I have been seeing Dr. Mohamed Ali for 6 years now. He has given me excellent care and masterful service, a beautiful smile with nice Hollywood teeth. In addition, he has excellent bedside manners. His office staff is awesome and Cherry is very talented in finding ways to maximize my dental insurance. Husna does an amazing job in cleaning my teeth. I am always leaving the his dental office with a big smile on my face. Plus the location is perfect and the 1929 architecture of the medical building is beautiful. 2025 Update: Cherry no longer work at this dental office. She is so talented in accouting and processing the insurance claims. I miss her, best of luck wherever you are Cherry!

Dr. Mohamed Ali is incredibly kind, and he has a wonderful staff ما شاء الله and also I want to especially commend Ms. Janice for her positive tone, kindness, and patience when I spoke with her over the phone. I have an impacted wisdom tooth with a cavity that needs extraction soon, and I'm feeling nervous since I've never had this done before. Honestly, I'm more anxious about the sedation and being put to sleep than the actual procedure itself, which adds to my fear. But there are more options to discuss in detail in my upcoming appointment and even before my appointment date the Doctor and Ms Janice are already making me feel less anxious about it. I visited the office yesterday to drop off some important files, and Dr. Mohamed Ali generously took the time to listen to my concerns. They even tried to fit me in for a same-day consultation and pushed my consultation appointment earlier instead of making me wait until next week. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay long as I was in a hurry and my husband had to drive me back to Berkeley before he goes to work, but that really shows how much they care about their patients. My husband was also a patient of Dr. Ali's and he told me about him and my brother-in-law was also a patient of his and both my husband and his brother had excellent experience with him. My appointment is next week, and I plan to ask more questions then. I feel confident about Dr. Ali and his staff truly care about their patients. I'll keep posting reviews and will provide updates after my appointment, as I believe sharing experiences can help others who are going through similar situations. I appreciate the extra mile that Dr. Mohamed Ali and Ms. Janice go to, their kindness and gentleness make a significant difference. Thank you so much. شكرا كتير
