About My Pediatric Dentist - Biological and Holistic

My Pediatric Dentist - Biological and Holistic is a dental practice on East Southern Avenue in Mesa, Arizona. Pediatric dental care is built around treating children specifically — dentists with additional training in child development and behaviour management, and offices designed to make a first visit unintimidating. Guidance generally points to a child's first dental visit around age one or within six months of the first tooth.

Holistic, or biological, dentistry applies standard dental diagnosis and treatment within an approach that emphasises material choice and conservative treatment, considering oral health as connected to the body more broadly rather than treating the mouth in isolation.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. What does a paediatric dentist do differently?
They complete additional training focused on children — how teeth develop, how to manage anxiety and behaviour in the chair, and conditions specific to young patients. The practical difference is usually as much about handling the visit as the treatment itself.
When do children start losing baby teeth?
Usually from around age six, continuing until roughly age twelve, though the timing varies widely between children. Adult molars also come through at the back around age six without any baby tooth falling out first.
Is biological or holistic dentistry more expensive?
It can be, since ceramic and composite materials and more conservative techniques sometimes cost more than the cheapest alternative. Pricing varies by practice, so it is worth asking directly rather than assuming.

This peds dental office exceeded my expectations. After driving far for another holistic approached pediatric dental office, we came across this east valley office. Dr. Austin and his staff were amazing. Dr. Austin was amazing with our son and spent a lot of time with us explaining what our options were for treatment and walking us through each of them. The office was so nice and clean. Highly recommend!

Our daughter had her first dentist appointment this past weekend, and Dr. McHenry did a fantastic job building rapport with her and helping her feel comfortable. He thoroughly explained every step of the process to us, making sure we understood everything and never felt confused or overwhelmed. The entire office staff provided exceptional customer service and made the experience a positive one from start to finish. We’re so grateful for the care and attention we received, and I can’t recommend this practice highly enough!

My Pediatric Dentist was clean and inviting from the moment we walked in the front doors. Everyone was kind, knowledgeable and helpful. The team made sure our 4 year old son felt comfortable the entire time and even had a tv above the chair for him to watch a show/tv for additional distraction. They even made sure to make our six year old daughter feel included and comfortable when she was there just to support her brother. Dr. Austin clearly explained the exam and treatment plan and made us feel comfortable with any decision we wanted to make. We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Austin and the entire team at My Pediatric Dentist. We highly recommend going there!

Hands down the best dental experience I have ever had. My child, who is scared of the dentist, had a smile on his face the entire time. The second you walk in the front door you are greeted by the sweetest ladies. The waiting room was comfortable and very inviting for children and adults. Attention to the details is evident and felt like a breath of fresh air. Then you get called back by the kindest dental assistant. She was so patient with my kiddo and helped him through the first steps of the visit. She took the time to find something that worked to get X-rays accomplished and it was not lost on me the passion and dedication to a great experience she had. The exam room was private, quiet, and welcoming. A personalized sign in the room made my kid feel so special. Dr. Austin came in and blew us away with his ability to bounce between engaging with the kids and having the conversation for treatment. Dr. Austin explored root causes of cavities to help us forward with good dental hygiene. He quickly earned the trust of my cautious 6 year old and gave him power in his appointment. My son left feeling empowered and confident. To end the visit, the front desk staff came back in to review the treatment plan and answer any additional questions. The whole visit felt like they truly wanted to partner with me in my child’s dental health journey. I am blown away at their care, compassion, and clear love for their clinic.
