About North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery

Based on Professional Drive in the Ponte Vedra Beach area of Palm Valley, Florida, North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward. What days is North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery open?
North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery is open Monday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery offer?
Listed services at North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery include Wisdom Teeth Removal. The full list is shown on this page.
What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

I had a dental implant placed by Dr Wahl with virtually no pain during or afterwards. I took no pain medications. I highly recommend him to anyone.

Amazing staff. We had an absolutely great experience. Our child needed all the wisdom teeth removed and this child is extremely anxious (extremely), the staff was so compassionate, caring and accommodating. I really do not have the words to describe just how wonderful the experience was.

Such a great experience with Dr. Wahl! Very clean, organized, and helpful business. I drove over 2 hours round trip just to come to him and it was worth it! I had wisdom teeth removal and he and his team did a great job! Almost no pain and swelling after and I was provided great instructions and were very caring towards me. Such a great team and office!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an excellent experience with Dr. Wahl and the entire team at North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery. My son developed an infection in one of his wisdom teeth, and they were able to get him in for an evaluation very quickly. Dr. Wahl took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, answer all of our questions, and put us completely at ease. We were fortunate that they had a cancellation, which allowed my son to have all four wisdom teeth extracted the very next morning. The entire process was smooth from start to finish. We left with very clear post-operative instructions and medication guidance, which made recovery much easier. My son experienced no complications and had a very quick recovery. The office staff was also outstanding. They followed up to check on my son, answered any questions we had, and reassured us that staff were available around the clock if any issues arose. We are thoroughly satisfied with the care we received and highly recommend Dr. Wahl and North Florida Oral & Facial Surgery to anyone needing oral surgery care.

I had three teeth extracted at North Florida Oral and Facial Surgery in Ponte Vedra, and Dr. Tyler Wahl and his entire office were absolutely amazing. From the moment I arrived, everyone was professional, kind, and reassuring. Dr. Wahl and his team explained each and every step thoroughly — before the surgery, during the procedure, and afterward — so I always knew exactly what to expect. The whole experience went smoother than I ever imagined, and the staff was supportive, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout. I’m extremely grateful for Dr. Wahl and his office, and I highly recommend them to anyone needing oral surgery.

I want to start by saying that the back-of-house team here is amazing. The dental assistants, as well as Dr. Wahl, were great during my wisdom teeth extraction and made me feel comfortable throughout the procedure. I did notice some inconsistency in post-op guidance. I was initially told that peak pain would be days 2–3, so my husband took time off to be with me then. However, when I returned on day 5 in significant pain, I was told that days 5–6 are actually the peak. If I had been given that information upfront, I would have planned differently and not returned to work on day 5. I also wish I had been better informed about potential complications and what to expect during healing. Unfortunately, the front desk experience is where things fell short—and ultimately why I, along with my family, will not be returning. Before my procedure, I called with questions about pre-op instructions after misplacing my paperwork. The first person I spoke with was kind and said she would follow up, but I never heard back. When I called again about an hour before closing, the second interaction was not pleasant. I was told they were busy and had received a lot of calls, which felt dismissive considering I was simply following up. Another concerning interaction was when I reached out about something sharp coming out of my extraction site. After waiting hours for a response, I received a message saying, “It’s probably just a stitch and you need to leave it alone,” which came across as dismissive and rude. As someone who works in patient care, I understand how busy things can get—but patients should still be treated with kindness and respect. It turned out to be a tiny bone fragment, and when I later spoke with a dental assistant, they gave me helpful advice on how to handle it in the future. I just wish that level of care and guidance had been provided from the start instead of being dismissed. After I addressed the tone of communication, the attitude did improve, but I don’t feel like I should have had to advocate for basic courtesy. Overall, the clinical team is excellent, but the front desk experience needs improvement. Patient communication and tone truly make or break a practice.

I went in yesterday to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted. It was a very quick and painless procedure.Dr Wahl is awesome, gentle, and super nice, as well as all the staff I have met on his team. They were very calming and explained what they were doing every step of the way. They called me later the same day to check on how I was doing. I called after hours to ask a question that had to do with recovery and medication management and Dr Wahl answered promptly. Really amazing experience, I’m glad I chose this practice to get my extraction at!

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience or team. I called same day in desperate need of 1 wisdom tooth needing to be removed. I fortunately did have a referral from my dentist, and they honored it even though it was for a different doctor within the North Florida practice. The front office team was so wonderful and easy to work with. I was having issues with insurance and they were able to get it fixed. They got me in same day, and were able to get all 4 removed. Dr. Wahl was wonderful and was attentive to my concerns and explained the whole procedure in great detail. From the moment I walked in I was taken care of from the front office ladies, Kaylie who took my x-rays and helped me get prepped for surgery. Debbie helped me in the morning get an appointment and even stopped in to check to make sure I was okay and getting the care I needed. Dr. Wahl was wonderful and the surgery went very well. I can’t recommend this place enough! 5 star experience from beginning to end!
