About Northtowns Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, PLLC

Based on Davison Court in Lockport, New York, Northtowns Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, PLLC is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave. What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
Why do dentists take X-rays?
Decay between teeth and problems below the gumline are invisible to the naked eye, so X-rays are what reveal them. Modern digital images use a low dose and are taken only when clinically justified.

I had a tough tooth pulled by Dr. Donnarumma. He is very pleasant. I was extremely nervous as my teeth have been a nightmare all my life. My periodontist had referred me. Dr. Donnarumma got me numbed up and removed the tooth in pieces. I had no pain, no bleeding, no swelling! Everyone at the office contributed to a good experience! And my pain is gone.

Dr. Donnarumma is excellent as is the entire staff. They explained everything from billing procedures to after-care. The doctor was very calm and reassuring while extracting my wisdom tooth. It was easier and quicker than I expected. My jaw was numb so the discomfort and anxiety was minimal.

Dr. Donnarumma and his staff are professional and caring. Everyone is friendly and makes the long process of implants as pleasant as possible. All procedures and costs are explained verbally and in writing. I’ve never had any issues with extractions or implants and would only trust Dr. Donnarumma to perform any future work I need.

I have nothing but absolutely amazing things to say about this place. I came here because my brother and cousins recommended me for my wisdom teeth and I have never felt so comfortable in a place before; I left the consultation with no questions unanswered. Dr. Donnarumma made me feel at ease getting them out awake and was so informative during the procedure. I absolutely love this place and everybody that works there are amazing and so caring.

The doctor was wonderful , did a great job explaining what was happening and what to expect. He is such a very kind man. Everyone who worked in the office was also very kind a d helpful. My only complaint was that having a tooth pulled was much more expensive than I was expecting.

Took my son here for his wisdom teeth removal and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We felt comfortable with Dr. Donnarumma and his staff the first time we met at the consultation appointment. Everyone was extremely friendly and professional right down to follow up calls after my son’s procedure. Would highly recommend!
