About Nutmeg Family Dentistry

Based on State House Square in the Downtown area of Hartford, Connecticut, Nutmeg Family Dentistry is a dental practice serving the area. A family dental practice sees a range of ages under one roof, which for most households means fewer separate appointments across different offices. It typically covers routine checkups and restorative treatment for both children and adults, with referrals out for anything requiring specialist training.

Affordable care means the practice sets out to make treatment accessible on a self-pay basis or through a payment arrangement, rather than assuming every patient arrives with comprehensive insurance. It is worth asking directly what options exist before assuming a needed treatment is out of reach.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not. Dung made sure I was as comfortable as possible, and explained all of the procedures clearly so that I knew what to expect.

I have been with this dental practice for over 30 years. Through the years my dental care has seen many dental professionals and support staff and three different locations. Always very professional, friendly and caring. Best of all, I’m 78 years old and still have all of my teeth ! I think that speaks volumes.

I had a second cleaning with Nutmeg family dentistry’s hygienist Dung , she was very thorough and explained everything she was doing . I feel that Dung cares for her patients dental care, and wants to insure that her patients teeth last a lifetime. I would recommend Dung for your dental hygiene needs.

I am a Black woman on HUSKY insurance. My review is in stark contrast with general patients of Nutmeg Family Dentistry. I am admittedly low income, on state insurance and this office was referred to me by my provider as Nutmeg only accepts my insurance for root canal/crowns. Perhaps, it is a low income vibe I gave off that has pegged me a non-priority for this office? Maybe I am not their ‘average clientele’. I’m hurt and stranded by the administrative staff at Nutmeg Family Dentistry. I am someone who took a day off work and traveled by bus from Newtown, CT to this office for the first morning appt - specifically due to the ‘overwhelming positive written reviews’. I’ve read Dr. Chace is known to do exceptional work on crowns. I did not meet Dr. Chace, but I met a Male dentist named Dr. Aly who only does root canals. Felt like I was taking up his time or something during my emergency appt for X-rays of my cracked tooth. I cried to Dr. Aly and let him and staff know I was in excruciating pain and swelling in my tooth/face was visible. During my visit, I observed Dr. Aly hurry through my appointment before he instructed me to take OTC meds for pain and swelling. He also instructed me to call my insurance by the following week to fast-track the crown and emergency root canal approval. I did my part. That was over one month ago. My appointment was in April. It is now June and the office has not sent my claim or any dental records to my insurance for approval of emergency root canal. 34 days! This has neglected me to receive care or treatment for an excruciating tooth that has high potential for very serious infections. So, my front canine is actively splitting and has cracked twice more in the *34 days* Nutmeg Family Dentistry has refused to send my claim/info for an ER root canal approval to my insurance. Had to say that again. My insurance confirmed they have received zilch. To no avail- I’ve left several voicemails to update the dentist on condition of tooth I’m desperate to save, as well as inquire the hold up with my claim not being sent to my insurance. Will sooner see Christ walk on water before their staff/dentist can return my phone calls or send the claim to begin proceedings to save my tooth. I am still leaving voicemails as recent as middle of last week days before they closed. All of my voicemails/phone calls made in May and June are all unanswered. How can anyone feel safe or in good hands at this practice?! Dr. Aly is forgetful, avoidant and literally showed no compassion for the well being of me OR trusting him with my care. The administrative staff is just as dismissive. I can’t tell you how disheartening and shady this experience has been for me, as I have to chase down an office, dentists and my own dental records just to save my tooth. Mainly because I thought I would receive the best care in Connecticut that my insurance could offer me at Nutmeg Family Dentistry in Hartford. Hence why I took a bus from Newtown, CT. Instead, my tooth is progressively worsening because my insurance has no claim to approve me to receive care and treatment for a painful tooth in emergency of a root canal I needed, 34 days ago. That is unacceptable. So, myself with the low income state insurance should not expect the compassion, professionalism or “great work” that apply to those who have allotted to the 4.9 star Google ratings for this business.

Did not actually get the opportunity to receive service at this facility. Booked an appointment as a new patient online over a month in advance. Received a call 3 days before my appointment stating that it would be canceled due to the provider not accepting Husky for new patients. I did not inform them of my primary dental insurance with my employer, nor was I asked if I had any additional coverage. I was just irritated with the time wasted because an appointment could have been made with another office. Please update the online services provided and coverage accepted. I also was referred to this office by a Medicaid recipient, so I did not think it would be an issue.

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Chase at Nutmeg Dental. The care was professional, thorough, and focused on patient comfort. The procedure was completely painless, and Dr. Chase clearly explained each step, which made me feel at ease. The clinic was clean, well-organized, and equipped with modern technology. I highly recommend this practice.

I had to circle the block three times in order to find parking. Once inside the receptionist was very nice and provided quick service getting me into a room. The X-ray tech, Angie, was very nice as well and made me feel at home. The Dentist was professional and informative however I did not get any service because he said the insurance takes about 2 weeks to get approved. I found that odd and never experienced that before.

My first appointment today was great. Angie front office was very helpful and was able to get me in to see The Dentist. Dr Chase and her assistant was great. I would definitely go back.

Dental Hygienist Dung was so sweet and caring, she really pays close attention to her patients!!! She also helps the patients to really understand what they need to do in order to take care of their teeth properly. Dr. Polly is very sweet and attentive to her patients as well.
