About ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio

ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio operates on North Clark Street in the Ravenswood area of Chicago, Illinois. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent.

Payment and insurance arrangements vary by practice and by treatment, so it is worth asking directly what is covered and what options exist for anything that is not, rather than assuming either way. Getting that clarified before treatment starts avoids surprises once it is underway.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts. What days is ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio open?
ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio is open Monday through Friday. Contact the practice through this page to confirm current appointment times before travelling.
What services does ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio offer?
Listed services at ORA Oral Surgery and Implant Studio include Wisdom Teeth Removal. The full list is shown on this page.
What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
How long is recovery after wisdom tooth removal?
Most of the swelling and discomfort settles within about a week, with the first two or three days the most noticeable. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth generally takes longer to recover from than a simple extraction.
What causes bad breath and can a dentist help?
Persistent bad breath most often comes from bacteria on the tongue and around the gumline, and gum disease is a frequent underlying cause. Because it is usually oral in origin, a dental examination is a sensible first step.

My 17yo son was referred to Dr. Koos by his pediatric dentist for extractions of all 4 wisdom teeth. The office is almost an hour away with no traffic so I asked a friend who’s a dentist and googled places nearby, the reviews were concerning. I decided on Dr. Koos since I trust my kids dentist and we couldn’t be happier. Professional staff, comfortable office for patients and those waiting for patients, they explained everything so clearly and I know my son was nervous but I could tell he was relieved afterwards. Says he didn’t feel a thing and we were sent home with detailed instructions, a complete list of medications to help healing, prevent infection and pain, swelling, the works. The office has a special patient pick up area in the back of the office for after treatment and Dr. Koos was professional enough to give us a call that evening for follow up and questions. I would highly recommend Dr. Koos to anyone needing surgery.

I recently visited this dental office while experiencing some of the worst tooth pain I have ever had. I would like to recognize the doctor and the anesthesiologist for their kindness, professionalism, and excellent care. They made a very difficult situation much more comfortable and treated me with compassion throughout my visit. Unfortunately, my experience with the billing clerk was quite different. During a time when I was in severe pain and already feeling stressed, I found the billing clerk to be rude, dismissive, and lacking empathy toward both me and my guest. Customer service is just as important as clinical care, especially when patients are dealing with pain and anxiety. While I am grateful for the outstanding treatment I received from the medical staff, I hope the office will address the way patients are treated at the front desk so that others do not have a similar experience.

The medical care I received from Dr. Koos and nursing team at Ora was excellent. The low rating of this review is due to Ora's unethical billing practices. I received a quote one month in advance of my procedure, and was told payment could only be made by cash or cashier's check. Not a problem. However on the day of my procedure, the amount had increased by almost $200. This was not communicated during my check in call. My husband had to run to the ATM minutes before I could go into surgery, and quite frankly, it felt like a shakedown. When I asked for an itemized bill they at first refused. When they finally printed it, they said the increase was due to my insurance deductible not being met. That's complete BS. Upon closer inspection their list prices for two line items had inexplicably increased by over 400% in the span of one month. Insurance had nothing to do with these line items. We ultimately paid because we felt we had no choice (I needed the surgery and had arranged to take several days off work). I feel a duty to warn fellow customers, especially if these billing practices are widespread.

Unprofessional reception staff. Terrible at communication. Had to call multiple times to get copies of my xrays.

A++ Service. From the first time I walked in everyone was very polite and friendly. Dr. Koos was amazing in thoroughly explaining every step of the procedure and after care. The day of the procedure the staff took really great care of me and made sure I was comfortable. Dr. Koos called the night of the procedure to check in and if I had any questions. Simply great service and I highly recommend 👌

I’m so grateful that I did my research and was intentional about finding a dental office for my wisdom teeth extraction surgery. And this studio absolutely delivered from start to finish. I’m originally from Uptown and no longer live over here but never knew this gem existed. The front desk is all women, which I appreciate and they’re all sooo amazing, helpful, knowledgeable and a pleasure interacting with. The atmosphere is calm and they only play 90’s/2000’s R&B, i love it! Joanne, who I assume is the studio’s front desk manager, explained everything to me so thoroughly when it came to my cost for the surgery and was always patient with me and clear every single time I called to ask questions, which was a quite a lot lol because I wanted to be organized ahead of time and was concerned about going under anesthesia. Dr. Koos is amazing and very diligent and thorough. My consultation went really well and he allowed me to ask plenty of questions and helped me understand the “why” behind every decision and step before/during/and after the surgery. He also followed up with me post-surgery later that night to check-in and see how I was feeling and provide me with reminders for my medication etc. He has a very calm demeanor and even assisted me getting into my boyfriend’s car after surgery. Overall this place is a 10/10, it is pricey but was a better option than the other 3 places I checked out. I utilized my insurance and planned ahead to ensure I could receive the best care and could afford it. Please please plan ahead yourself! No office/clinic owes you anything when it comes to the financial aspect. This is America and healthcare is not free, but this place does break the costs down ahead of time, so you can make the best decision for you. The studio is very clean, in a great location, and is the only eco-friendly and environmentally conscious dentistry in the nation, which is very important to me so this was sooo aligned. I love it there!

Dr.Koos was the ABSOLUTE BEST! And his staff as well. From the music, the ambience and the comfort Top tier. And im a tough critic and terrified of the dentist. He was so gentle, informative and caring. I’ve been recommending everybody to get a tooth pulled just to experience them lol.

Dr Koos is knowledgable, skilled and efficient. My consultation was comprehensive and my procedure was done with great expertise. My only criticism (very minor) is that the music in the waiting room is too loud! That's a minor thing but it does affect the overall experience. I highly recommend this practice if you need an oral surgeon.

I came here for a triple tooth extraction in preparation for implants. Dr Koose was very patient and caring with. This was my first time with anesthesia and I was a bit nervous. But he made me feel that ease with what to expect. I don’t have a memory of what happened on the day of my procedure, but I do recall being treated with compassion and care and patience. I also appreciate they were upfront about what to expect on the day of the procedure and what the price prices would be. All very transparent. I was in at 10:30 and out by 1230. The doctor even called me that evening to check up on me. That was a very nice and classy thing to do!
