About Oral and Maxillofacial Associates

Based on Northwest 138th Street in the Northwest Oklahoma City area of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Oral and Maxillofacial Associates is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

Oral surgery covers procedures beyond routine treatment — surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, implant placement, and bone grafting among the more common ones. The distinguishing feature is generally that tissue is opened and closed as part of the procedure, rather than treated at the surface.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery covers surgical conditions of the face, jaw, and mouth, from wisdom teeth and jaw realignment through to facial trauma and reconstruction, carried out by surgeons trained in both dentistry and surgery.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment. What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
Will I be put to sleep for oral surgery?
Not necessarily. Many oral surgery procedures are done under local anaesthetic alone, sometimes with sedation added for comfort. Full general anaesthesia is reserved for more extensive or complex cases.

Great people. I’ll go back if another tooth decides to be a problem. They will be the first call.

OMA has been my preferred place for involved dental work that is not usually performed by a regular dentist. At check in, the staff greets you quickly and patiently. During a consultation appointment, they provide written information about the work to be completed and incurred costs. I have seen Dr Martin for surgery each time. He is very pleasant and knowledgeable and makes you feel important. I am confident with his work, and I will continue to be a patient of his. Dr Martin and his assistants make you feel comfortable and informed about what is going to occur for each step. I appreciate that. Following surgery, the after care instructions have full details to help you know what to expect and do. I recommend OMA. The work they perform is extremely important. I will continue to be a patient.

We had such a wonderful experience with Dr. McIntire / OMA for my daughter’s surgery. From the moment we walked in, the staff was caring, organized, and incredibly informative. They explained every step clearly and made both of us feel comfortable and at ease. The surgery and recovery went smoothly and my daughter experienced zero pain, which honestly exceeded our expectations. The team checked on her thoroughly and made sure we had all the information we needed before heading home. We are so grateful for the kindness, professionalism, and excellent care we received. Highly recommend this office to anyone looking for an oral surgeon who truly cares about their patients!

Dr. Martin and the entire team at Oral and Maxillofacial Associates were absolutely outstanding. From the first appointment through surgery and recovery, they treated me with real care, professionalism, and respect. Having jaw surgery is stressful, but Dr. Martin took the time to explain everything clearly and made me feel confident every step of the way. The staff was friendly, the office was organized, and the level of care I received was top notch. Recovery has been tough, but I’m thankful to have had a surgeon who genuinely cares about his patients and their outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Martin and his team to anyone needing oral surgery or maxillofacial care. Truly a 5-star experience.

Phenomenal experience! One word amazing!!! I know those words aren't common when having oral surgery but team made it so easy. Dr Martin is fantastic, upbeat personality, funny and eases all worries and nerves, he's the cool guy. Bailey is simply a Sweetheart. I was incredibly nerves, she calmed my nerves and allowed me to pick a radio station to hear my jams beforehand. We cannot forget about Marlene. Post recovery, when you're waking up and confused, Marlene is right by your side. Patient, kind and informative. I called her the following day with questions and she erased all fears. OMA truly has a great team that works well with one another. If I ever need another oral surgery, it's a no brainer that I'll be back.

I just have to send a huge Thank You for the absolutely incredible care that Dr. Martin and his wonderful team provided for my son last Friday. Honestly, when I heard he needed a tooth extraction, a bone graft, and an implant, we were bracing ourselves for a really tough and stressful situation . Dr. Martin has an amazing way of explaining complex procedures so clearly. And please also, extend our deepest gratitude to your entire staff! Every single person, from the front office to the support team, was an absolute gem. They handled everything with such professionalism and kindness ❤️ We'll be recommending your practice wholeheartedly to everyone we know! Thanks again for everything!
