About Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of WNY

Based on Transit Road in Depew, New York, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of WNY is a dental practice serving the area. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit.

Left untreated, small dental problems tend not to stay small. A minor cavity that would have been a straightforward filling can progress to needing root canal treatment and a crown, and early gum inflammation that would have reversed with a good cleaning can progress toward bone loss around the teeth. Catching things early is generally the difference in both effort and cost. What services does Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of WNY offer?
Listed services at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of WNY include Wisdom Teeth Removal. The full list is shown on this page.
What age is best to have wisdom teeth taken out?
Late teens to early twenties is often easier, because the roots are less fully formed and bone is more forgiving, so healing tends to be quicker. Removal is still routinely done later when there is a reason for it.
Why do wisdom teeth cause problems?
They arrive last, often into a jaw with no room left, so they become impacted or come through at an angle. Partly erupted wisdom teeth are also very difficult to clean, which is why they are prone to repeated infection and decay.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

Everyone was so kind to my son who was anxious about getting his teeth pulled. They were communicative with me throughout the process also.

If I could give 10 stars I would. The staff was so kind and welcomed us immediately in their office. Dr. Brown is kind, knowledgeable and highly skilled. My 12 year old son was very nervous prior to his procedure, but Dr. Brown made him feel safe and taken care of. His procedure went awesome and I credit Dr. Brown for making a nerve wracking procedure seem like a walk in the park! I would recommend Dr. Brown to anyone looking for an oral surgeon. You won’t be disappointed! Thank you Dr. Brown and team!!

Dr. Varer did my wisdom tooth surgery and both her and the staff were amazing. I felt well prepared and comfortable. Every person I interacted with was so kind. Bonus, I had almost no pain afterward and had a smooth recovery.

Everyone at the office was very friendly! The doctor was taking a little longer to get to us and the one staff came and checked on us and let us know there was a delay and apologized for it. The doctor was very nice. We saw Dr. Brown. He was knowledgeable and did not rush to exit the room. He spent as much time as needed with us and answered all my questions! The lady that checked us out and scheduled our future appointment was very sweet and explained our benefits and how the amount due was reflected for our next visit! Overall very satisfied!

Very happy with my experience! I went in for a consultation on my wisdom teeth, expecting extraction for all four. Received the surgery appointment about two weeks later and had them removed issue free! I am still recovering (day 4 as of this review) and I have really only had stiffness and soreness. Additionally, the price with laughing gas was substantially better than what other places had offered!

Dr. Au and his staff are amazing. Friendly, cordial, and professionalism all rolled into one, in a very nice modern clean facility. My extraction of a broken molar was a far better experience that I expected in every way. Best choice I could have made going there. Highly recommended!
