About Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of New York City
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of New York City provides dental care on Madison Avenue in the Manhattan area of New York. Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, or damaging the tooth in front, since they arrive last and often into a jaw with no room left. Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out — one that erupts cleanly and can be kept clean is often left alone.
Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.
A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.
Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.
Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit. Dr Ruth is a gem…the best!
Great staff and amazing doctors get the job done. Dr Chen took me in on the last minute just walk in asked for help and he relieved me of my misery in less than an hour.
Dr Ward really made a connection with my sister and she has a long road to get teeth extracted and over dentures or implants but she is in good hands. I my sister had not been to a dentist in a long time Thanks for your bed side manner to someone who has a bad gag reflex.
ONSNY is a great place for dental work. Have been a patient of Dr Ruth for many years. He's the best !!!
Not only was I able to get an appointment in an extremely timely manner. I was operated on (biopsy) without any pain the office and staff are The kind of staff you wish were everywhere. They are lovely. The one suggestion I might have is if you're having anything that might hurt after you leave the office you might ask him for prescription for a little more painkiller sometimes Tylenol or aspirin just don't work other than that if you can get an appointment to see him this is the guy
Dr Gary Ruth was very thorough took long look at my ex ray and did a good examination of the area around my tooth and came to conclusions that there was no need to pull the tooth and that waiting was best option. Thanks again
Dr. Harrison Chen is exceptional. His bedside manner is outstanding—he takes the time to listen, answer questions, and make you feel completely comfortable throughout the process. His front office and staff are equally impressive: professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive. They walk you through every step, ensuring everything is clear and stress-free. I highly recommend Dr. Chen and his team for the excellent care and outstanding patient experience they provide.
Dr. Ruth is amazing. He is so skilled, caring and all around nice. He puts you at ease from the moment you.meet him( good for scaredy cats). His assistant is great and very friendly. The whole office staff couldn’t be nicer. I’m so glad my dentist sent me to Dr. Ruth.
Dr. Ruth explained my options and proceeded with the post for an implant. He explained in a way that I can understand and shows compassion. He is an excellent Dr. The procedure was fast and I felt no pain whatsoever. I will continue to recommend him to family and friends.
