About Oral Surgery

An oral surgery practice listed under the generic name "Oral Surgery" operates at Suite 508, 1234 19th Street Northwest in Washington DC's 20036 zip code — in the same building as Dr. Barbara E. Baxter DMD (Suite 704, ID 3068), Dupont Dental (ID 3077), Minovi Dental (Suite 400, ID 3120), Nadine Soga DMD (Suite 710, ID 3122), and Neil L. Starr DDS PC (Suite 306, ID 3126). The presence of an oral surgery specialist at Suite 508 of this building makes 1234 19th Street NW one of the more complete dental buildings in DC, offering both general dental care and surgical specialty services under one address.

Oral surgery as a dental specialty covers a range of procedures beyond the scope of general dentistry: surgical extractions including impacted wisdom teeth, dental implant placement, bone grafting, jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), treatment of oral pathology, and management of dental injuries. Having an oral surgeon in the same building as multiple general dentists facilitates smooth referrals and coordination when a general dentist encounters a case that requires surgical management — a meaningful convenience for both practitioners and patients.

Suite 508 on the fifth floor places the oral surgery practice in the mid-section of the 1234 19th Street building, between the lower-floor general dental practices (Neil Starr at 306, Minovi at 400) and the upper-floor practices (Dr. Baxter at 704, Dr. Soga at 710). The Dupont Circle Metro station is the nearest transit access point for this 19th Street NW address.

For DC patients in the Dupont Circle and downtown professional corridor who have been referred for oral surgery — or who are establishing care with a surgeon for implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, or other surgical procedures — this Suite 508 oral surgery practice at 1234 19th Street NW provides specialty care in a building that also houses five general dental practices for coordinated referrals.

Oral surgery specialty practice at 1234 19th St NW in Washington DC, in the same building as five general dental practices including Dr. Baxter, Dupont Dental, Minovi, Soga DMD, and Starr DDS.

Dr. Merlo and his team addressed my concerns appropriately and the Dr made sure my wisdom teeth extraction was quick and painless. They made sure I was comfortable throughout the extraction. The only thing is I wish they can follow up even once to find out how patients are doing. In my case I had all my four wisdom teeth pulled out.

I had an outstanding experience with Dr. Salous and the entire team at Washington Oral & Facial Surgery. From the moment I walked in, everyone was welcoming, professional, and made me feel completely at ease. Dr. Salous took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. His skill and attention to detail gave me a lot of confidence, and my procedure went smoothly with an easy recovery. The staff was organized, friendly, and genuinely cared about my experience from start to finish. If you’re looking for an oral surgeon who is knowledgeable, compassionate, and backed by an amazing team, I highly recommend Dr. Salous and Washington Oral & Facial Surgery. Thank you all for the exceptional care!

Dr. Merlo, and all the staff, have been fantastic to work with. They are very helpful, professional, and good at walking through all the steps, managing expectations, and making my procedure and recovery easy. Zoila was especially helpful in coordinating and setting up my procedure, and answering all my questions.

Came to Washington Oral and Facial Surgery to see Dr. Merlo about extraction for all four wisdom teeth. He was great — knowledgeable and very responsive. His team were super comforting and helpful in understanding risk, recovery, and insurance. The recovery was as expected and pretty quick too. The team — reception, doctors, nurses, assistants — is exactly who you want for your procedure from start to finish. I’d go back to them if I had more wisdom teeth to remove! Luckily… not the case!

Excellent experience from start to finish. I was able to get a next-day appointment for my wisdom tooth pain. Dr. Merlo and his team were quick, efficient, and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. I’m now 2 days into recovery with no pain or swelling. Highly recommend!

The staff there were amazing! I was anxious and nervous abut the cost but the administrative staff checked my insurance immediately. It relieved my anxiety. Zoila was a great dental hygienist! Dr. Merlo is an exceptional oral surgeon. He explained the entire process of the implant procedure which was very reassuring. I highly recommend the practice!

I had a wonderful experience with the staff at Washington Oral and Facial Surgery Dental Group. They are a knowledgeable and caring group of professionals. They were able expedite an authorization for my tooth extraction in less than 24 hours. They explained every step of the tooth extraction process. Therefore making me feel relaxed and comfortable in the hands of Dental Surgeon Dr. Salons. They deserve more than a 5 star rating! They are a 10! I highly recommend visiting this Dental Group! a

I came here twice for molar extractions, first with Dr. Merlo (who also did bone graft) and then with Dr. Salous last week. I'm a very nervous person and both times I had a good experience. The front desk, and particularly the medical assistants, were incredibly nice and supportive. When I had a concern outside of business hours, I contacted Dr. Merlo and he responded immediately. Plus, they offer very reasonable prices compared to other places. I'll be doing an implant soon, and this is definitely where I'll go. I trust Dr. Merlo and his team.

Cant speak to the oral surgery work but this place reeks of administrative incompetence. I had phone calls to schedule the appointment and confirm my insurance, received a verbal quote as to how much I would be paying in co-pay, filled out the pre-appointment new patient questionnaires in advance, and stressed the urgency of the appointment over the phone, only to arrive and have the front desk tell me they don’t accept my insurance. The fact that I made it that far and wasted a week in tooth pain only to find out at the last minute they don’t take my insurance after confirming they did is jarring and disturbing.
