About Oro Valley Family Dentistry

Oro Valley Family Dentistry is a dental practice on North Oracle Road in the Catalina Village area of Tucson, Arizona. Sedation dentistry uses inhaled, oral, or intravenous options to help patients relax through treatment, ranging from nitrous oxide for mild anxiety through to deeper sedation for longer or more involved procedures. It is commonly used for patients who have avoided the dentist for years due to fear.

Beyond any single treatment, most dental visits start with an examination — checking for decay, reviewing the gums, and looking at existing fillings or crowns — often alongside X-rays where there is a reason to look between or beneath teeth. That groundwork is what a dentist uses to explain any findings and set out next steps before you leave.

Routine attendance, roughly every six months for most people, is what actually keeps small problems small. A lot of decay and gum disease develops without any pain in its early stages, which is why regular checkups matter even when nothing seems to be wrong, rather than only booking an appointment once something hurts.

A first appointment at a new practice typically covers a full examination, a review of your dental and medical history, and a professional cleaning, with X-rays if you do not have recent ones. It is also a reasonable time to raise any longer-term concerns, cosmetic or otherwise, so they can be factored into a plan going forward.

Day-to-day oral health still comes down to the basics between visits — brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between the teeth, and limiting how often sugary food and drink appear through the day matters more than the total amount eaten at once. Regular professional care is what catches whatever those habits do not.

Digital X-rays are a routine part of dental care because they show what a visual exam alone cannot — decay forming between teeth, bone loss below the gumline, and how developing adult teeth are positioned in children. They use a low radiation dose and are taken on a schedule matched to individual risk rather than at every single visit. This page has the practice's contact details and full service list. What sedation options are available at the dentist?
Commonly inhaled sedation, oral sedatives taken beforehand, and intravenous sedation for more involved cases. They differ in depth and in how long the effects last, so what is offered depends on the treatment and the practice.
Will I be unconscious under dental sedation?
Usually not. Most dental sedation leaves you conscious but deeply relaxed, often with little memory of the procedure afterward. General anaesthesia, where you are fully unconscious, is reserved for specific circumstances.
Is it normal for teeth to be sensitive to cold?
Mild, brief sensitivity is common and often relates to exposed root surfaces or worn enamel. Sensitivity that lingers after the cold is removed is more significant and worth having examined, as it can indicate the nerve is involved.

I can’t say enough good things about this dental office. After having some really difficult and uncomfortable experiences with other dental offices in town, I was honestly very anxious about trying somewhere new. But from the moment I walked in, I felt at ease. The entire team is incredibly kind, caring, and most importantly—completely non-judgmental. They took the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way. There was no pressure, no shame—just genuine understanding and support. It’s such a relief to finally find a place where I feel respected and cared for. If you’ve had bad experiences in the past or feel nervous about going to the dentist, I highly recommend giving them a chance. It truly makes all the difference.

All the staff are positive and caring. They are wonderful at explaining what to expect, options and preventative care. They have some reasonable dental plans they offer. I have nothing but good things to review.

Dr. Matt is the best!!! He’s so patient with my kids, especially with my daughter’s major anxiety with shots. His staff is kind and helpful as well. Dr. Matt has also done Botox for me. It turned out great! Very natural looking. The office is clean. A little tricky to get to the first time if you’re coming from the south, but once you get there it’s easy the next time. Definitely worth the 1.5 hour drive. I HIGHLY recommend them!!

I really don’t like going to the dentist, I’ve avoided going even for a cleaning for years just because I don’t like the sound or feeling of the tools. This was my first visit here and my appointment was with Carol. This was actually a pleasant experience! Their new patient form asks if you’re nervous about seeing the dentist/why, and they actually addressed that in my appointment. Carol was so calm and sweet and really helped me feel more comfortable. Every staff member I met was very helpful and polite. Already scheduled my next cleaning for 6mo with Carol! I am not dreading going to the dentist for once in my life. Thank you so so much! Highly recommend ore valley family dentistry!!
