About Palo Alto Central Dental

Palo Alto Central Dental operates on California Avenue in the Evergreen Park area of Palo Alto, California. Implants are considered by many dentists the most durable way to replace a missing tooth, since the titanium post fuses with the jaw bone over several months and then supports a crown that functions much like a natural tooth. Enough healthy bone is the main prerequisite, and a graft can build that up first if needed.

Clear aligners straighten teeth through a series of custom, removable trays, each worn for one to two weeks before moving to the next in the sequence. They suit mild to moderate crowding and spacing well, and are worn roughly twenty to twenty-two hours a day for treatment to stay on schedule.

A veneer is a thin custom shell bonded to the front of a tooth to change its shape, length, or colour, most often used to address chips, gaps, or discoloration that whitening alone cannot fix. Traditional veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, which makes the change permanent.

Cosmetic dentistry covers treatment aimed primarily at appearance — whitening, veneers, bonding, and reshaping among the more common options — for patients who are less concerned with a problem that hurts than with how their smile looks day to day. The right combination depends on what specifically you would like to change.

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and seals the space, and allows the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Its reputation for being painful is largely outdated — carried out under local anaesthetic, it typically relieves pain rather than causing it.

Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control. TL;DR - Dr. Lee is a skillful and gentle dentist who cares a lot about his patients' comfort and dental health! I needed 8 fillings and a new dentist who would take Delta, and landed at Palo Alto Central Dental. I saw Dr. Ivan Lee and he made it about as positive an experience as getting 8 fillings can be. Dr. Lee seems young, but don't be put off by that; he is skillful, thoughtful, and very professional. In the initial assessment he took photos of my teeth to show me exactly what he was seeing and explain what needed to be done (he also took them during the process so he could show me afterward the extent of the cavities he had cleaned and filled). He explained clearly what the work would entail, where there were uncertainties (e.g. hidden cavities under old fillings) and answered all my questions frankly. When I scheduled the appointments he didn't pressure me to take on more in one sitting than I felt I could handle, given how many fillings I needed. During the fillings, which were the first I've had as an adult, he and his assistant were very focused and I felt completely safe thanks to his calm and gentle demeanor. He checked in with me throughout to ensure I was comfortable. The first appointment took 2 hours in the chair and the second 1.5 - not fun, but he made it very tolerable. After the first marathon he made sure that I was still comfortable with doing the other four fillings in one appointment vs. doing two shorter ones, which I appreciated. The fillings were not quite level (not his fault, I was too numb to tell right after) so he squeezed me in the next day to touch them up. He was super thorough his corrections, even polishing off a flake of composite on the side of my tooth that wasn't really an issue, but he wanted to make it perfect. Other plusses: They take Delta! The receptionist Lavette is very kind and helpful. They have a convenient text option for scheduling once you're in the system. Dr. Lee is not big on small talk, which is honestly refreshing. One small consideration that brought me from 5 to 4 stars: I'm a curious patient and especially since it was my first time having cavities filled, I would have appreciated a little more communication about what was happening in my mouth while he was working. When Dr. Lee found a deep cavity I could tell something was up by the comments he made to his assistant, but he didn't communicate the situation to me until I started to feel the drill. Then he acknowledged he was working on a deep hole (and gave me more anesthetic, which was greatly appreciated).

I had a cleaning done and both the dentist and technician payed very little attention to the procedural inconsistencies. The dentist sprayed water on me and didn’t address it. The technician did not seem to know how to apply the fluoride because it was applied unevenly and haphazardly. This is the first time that I have experienced such poor service from this clinic.

I had to go in for emergency repair work when my front tooth just spontaneously cracked off. They got me in the same day, despite not previously being a patient. Super friendly staff. Dr. Lin got me in and out in forty minutes with a new crown. I think I found my new dentists.

Wonderful Care from the Dental Team! I’ve been seeing this dentist for a while now, and he has always been incredibly gentle, meticulous, and attentive. He takes excellent care of my teeth, and I truly appreciate his professionalism and kindness. Today, I was also assisted by a wonderful dental assistant who was so gentle and kind. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire visit, and her light touch and warm demeanor made the experience even better. I’m really grateful for such a caring and skilled team. Thank you for making every visit such a positive experience!

I had a fantastic experience at Palo Alto Central Dental! Dr. Kelly Ren was incredibly gentle and thorough—honestly one of the most comfortable and gentle cleanings I’ve ever had. She took her time and made sure everything was done with care. Her assistants, Mariam and Ori, were also wonderful—professional, kind, and attentive throughout the visit. The facility itself is clean, modern, and welcoming. Overall, highly rated and absolutely recommend for anyone looking for quality dental care in a great environment!
