About Pennsylvania Center for Dental Implants & Periodontics

The office occupies suites 211 and 212 in a professional building at 9880 Bustleton Avenue, in the Bustleton section of Northeast Philadelphia. That matters practically: this is a part of the city where you can park, which is not true of the Center City specialty suites, and it puts the practice within a short drive of Somerton, Fox Chase and lower Bucks County. What you find inside is a specialty referral practice rather than a general dental office. Dr. Philip L. Fava II is a board-certified periodontist and implant surgeon, and the work here is surgical: placing implants, rebuilding bone and gum tissue, and treating advanced periodontal disease. The usual route in is a referral out of a general practice, and once the surgical phase is finished you return there to have the crown made and fitted.

Bone grafting is the part of the practice worth understanding before you book. When a tooth is lost, the bone that held its root begins to resorb, sometimes within months, and an implant needs a certain volume of bone to sit still while it fuses. Dr. Fava's published focus is autogenous grafting, using your own bone and soft tissue rather than relying only on processed substitute material, to rebuild that volume before or during implant placement. Sinus lifts fall into the same category: the maxillary sinus sits directly above the upper back teeth, and where it has expanded downward the floor has to be raised and grafted before an implant can be anchored there. This adds months to a timeline. Any quote that skips the grafting question is not a complete quote.

For full-arch cases the practice works with the All-on-4 approach, using Nobel Biocare and Straumann implant systems, where four to six implants angled to catch the densest available bone carry a fixed bridge. It usually means fewer implants and less grafting than replacing teeth one at a time, but it is not universally suitable and the cost range is wide.

Hours skew early. The office opens at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, which is useful if you want surgery done before work, with a later 9:30 a.m. start on Mondays and a Friday close at 1:00 p.m. There is a second location in Lower Gwynedd if the suburbs are easier for you. Bring your referring dentist's notes and any recent imaging to the consultation; it shortens the diagnostic visit considerably.

A specialty referral practice in Bustleton, Northeast Philadelphia, led by board-certified periodontist Dr. Philip L. Fava II. The work is surgical: implant placement, autogenous bone and soft tissue grafting, sinus lifts, gum disease treatment and All-on-4 full-arch restoration using Nobel Biocare and Straumann systems. Early 7:00 a.m. starts most weekdays, parking that is far easier than Center City, and a second location in Lower Gwynedd. Most patients arrive on referral and return to their own dentist for the final crown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my dentist to be seen at the Bustleton Avenue office?
A referral is not required, but most people arrive with one because this is a surgical specialty practice rather than a general dental office. If your dentist has already taken x-rays or a scan, bring them or ask for them to be sent ahead. Having recent imaging in hand shortens the first visit and means the consultation can be spent on planning rather than repeating diagnostics you have already paid for.
Why might I need a bone graft before an implant?
Bone that once held a tooth root begins to shrink once the tooth is gone, and an implant needs enough width and height of bone to stay stable while it fuses. Grafting rebuilds that volume, either at the time of extraction to preserve the socket or later as a separate procedure. In the upper back jaw a sinus lift raises the sinus floor to create room. Grafting adds months to the timeline, so ask early whether your case needs it.
How early can I be seen if I work during the day?
The practice opens at 7:00 a.m. from Tuesday through Friday, so early surgical and post-operative visits are realistic if you need to be at work afterwards. Mondays start later, at 9:30 a.m., and run to 6:00 p.m., while Fridays finish at 1:00 p.m. There is also a second location in Lower Gwynedd if driving north out of the city suits your schedule better than coming into the Northeast.

Positive experience from the moment your arrive. Front desk is both friendly and helpful. Kelly as usual did a wonderful job cleaning my teeth. I am having an ongoing issue with one of my teeth and Dr. Schoenbeck not only examined my tooth, took the time to listen to me, and mapped out a game plan going forward. I value and trust his expertise and guidance. Definitely a 5 star experience.

Dr. Schoenebeck and his team are truly outstanding. He provided excellent care and even personally called to check on me the day after my procedure, which meant a lot. Tina in the office was amazing—very helpful, kind, and made everything easy. The hygienist, Bagena Plotnik, was incredibly calming and supportive. I came in extremely anxious for my first procedure, and she helped me feel comfortable and at ease right away. Because of the care I received, I had no nerves going into my second procedure. She also explained aftercare thoroughly, which made recovery much easier. I highly recommend this office for anyone looking for compassionate, professional periodontal care.

I had such an amazing experience at this office and truly cannot thank the doctor and staff enough. I came into my appointment feeling extremely anxious, overwhelmed, and honestly terrified about the condition of my teeth and gums. From the moment I walked in, everyone treated me with kindness, patience, and compassion. The doctor took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me in a way that made me feel informed instead of scared. What meant the most to me was how reassuring and honest they were. Instead of making me feel hopeless, they helped me understand that my teeth and gums are treatable and manageable, and that meant more to me than they probably realize. They made me feel comfortable, listened to my concerns, and never made me feel judged or rushed. The office was clean, professional, and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly caring throughout the entire visit. I left my appointment feeling relieved, hopeful, and much more confident about my dental health and future treatment. I’m truly grateful for the care I received and would absolutely recommend this office to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and compassionate periodontist. Victoria Wheeler aka Vicky

I’ve been a patient of this office for many years. Had several implants done here in the past. Had my maintenance today. My hygienist, Kellyann, is excellent;prepared, careful and friendly. I’d recommend her highly. However, it used to be part of the regular visits to be seen by one of the dentists but despite having raised their fee by 10%, no dentist took the time to give me even a cursory examination. This has happened before; it never happened when Dr. Levine owned the practice. And it didn’t seem to me that the office was particularly busy. I don’t know that there was any other patient there at 9:00 when I arrived for my appointment. I don’t know if any dentists were even there. So, if you want to feel like a number, this is the place for you.

Dr. Schoenebeck is fantastic. He helps me keep my teeth! He is patient, knowledgeable and always does a great job explaining any procedures. Tanya, my Hygentist gives me the best cleanings I’ve ever had on my life. I do have receding gums and I get a cleaning every 3 months. She is great. Best ever. I highly recommend.
