About Periodontal Implant Associates

Based on South Walker Avenue in the South Oklahoma City area of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Periodontal Implant Associates is a dental practice serving the area. A dental implant replaces a missing tooth at the root, not just the crown — a small titanium post is placed in the jaw bone and, once it has integrated over a period of months, a replacement tooth is attached to it. It is generally the most durable option for a single missing tooth or several.

Gum disease treatment ranges from a deeper professional cleaning for early inflammation through to more involved periodontal care once bone around the teeth has started to be affected. Bleeding gums are usually the earliest sign, and the early stage is reversible with proper cleaning and better daily plaque control.

Periodontics is the specialty focused on the gums and the bone supporting the teeth, handling more advanced gum disease, related surgical treatment, and — in many practices — dental implant placement, which sits naturally alongside that training.

Continuity matters in dental care — seeing the same practice over time means your history, X-rays, and any patterns in your oral health are already on file, rather than starting from scratch at each visit. That familiarity is part of what a regular dental home offers beyond any single appointment.

Dental anxiety is common, and most practices are used to working with nervous patients — through clear explanations of what is about to happen, a slower pace where needed, and sedation options for patients who want them. Avoiding the dentist out of anxiety tends to make eventual treatment more involved, not less.

Children benefit from starting dental visits early, generally by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming through, mainly so they become familiar with the setting before any treatment is actually needed. Establishing that routine early tends to make ongoing checkups far less stressful for both child and parent. Why do my gums bleed even though I brush twice a day?
Bleeding usually reflects where you are cleaning rather than how often. Plaque left along the gumline and between teeth causes inflammation there, which is exactly the area brushing alone tends to miss, so flossing or interdental brushes matter.
What are the early signs of gum disease?
Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing, redness and puffiness along the gumline, and persistent bad breath are the usual first indicators. Bleeding is the one most often dismissed, and it is the clearest early warning.
What is gum recession and can it be treated?
Recession is when gum tissue pulls back and exposes more of the tooth root, often from aggressive brushing, gum disease, or grinding. Grafting procedures can cover exposed roots, though how well that works depends on the extent of the recession.

Dr. Shanbour and his staff are wonderful! I was nervous about the procedure, but he explained it very well and answered all of the questions I had. The procedure went smoothly and my recovery was flawless. I will not go anywhere else for periodontal care!

This place is amazing honestly, their hospitality is great & i've never had a doctor experience like i've had with them! I had to get a gum graph in which I am a highly anxious person & would like to avoid any type of surgeries at all costs lol, but it feels they really took it into account. Im not knowledgeable about gum graphs however Dr Shanbour is & I believe he did an amazing job. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I came to Periodontal Implant Associates by recommendation of my primary Dentist. I have experienced implants gone very wrong in the past, but my new experience here has by far passed my expectations. Dr. Shanbour is a very particular, personable, and professional. His team is also very compassionate and kind. They are very in tune with your needs as well. I ahve had a few major procedures with minimal pain and that's when you know they know what they are doing. I can not be more greatful for the team here. I highly recommend!

To start off, I can't stand getting dental work done. When I was first referred to them I put it off forever to get in and get the process started. I've now been coming to this office for over a year working on some implant installation. This office has been so great. The entire staff are so friendly and understanding. Dr. Shanbour Jr. started and did wonderful making me feel at ease and explaining the steps of the process. Dr. Shanbour senior took over and was just as clear and understanding. They accommodated my anxiety with sedation dentistry which made things so much smoother. They have been wonderful in every aspect of care. If they did general dentistry as well, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Thank you guys so much for calming my fears about dentistry and helping my smile.

Periodontal Implant Associates is fantastic! They did such a great job with my procedure. The staff was knowledgable, friendly, and did an expert-level job explaining every step of the process. There were no surprises! Dr. Shanbour is a true professional. The staff was attentive and on-top of appointment reminders, there was little to no wait times before appointments, and booking was incredibly simple. All-in-all, a great experience with an even better staff! Cannot recommend enough.
