About PhillySmiles
Three dentists share the schedule at PhillySmiles in Philadelphia, and between them they cover the full arc of a household: professionals in their thirties who want a chipped incisor handled properly, parents keeping recall visits on the calendar, and older patients whose medical histories complicate treatment planning. Dr. Shruti Tewari's caseload leans toward that last group. Dr. Joseph Roberts handles cosmetic and implant work, and Dr. Sheena Hauser covers minimally invasive treatment and laser gum therapy. The office has been part of the Rittenhouse and Fitler Square neighborhoods for more than thirty years, in a Frank Furness building at 1804 Rittenhouse Square.
Same-day crowns are the clearest illustration of how the office runs. Under the older model you got an injection, a preparation, a putty impression, a temporary crown glued on, then two or three weeks of chewing carefully before a second appointment. With CEREC, the prepared tooth is scanned, the restoration is designed on screen, and a ceramic block is milled in the office while you wait. It is bonded the same afternoon. Not every tooth qualifies; a molar that has lost too much structure may still need a core build-up or a lab-made crown first. But for a cracked cusp or a failed old filling, it collapses a three-week process into one visit.
Laser therapy gives a second, quieter option for gum disease. Instead of lifting the tissue with a scalpel and suturing it back, the laser removes diseased tissue and bacteria from inside the pocket and lets the gum reattach to the cleaned root, which generally means less bleeding and a shorter recovery. Implants, veneers, Invisalign, dentures, extractions and smile makeovers round out the treatment list, and emergency appointments are worked into the day.
The practice is private and fee-for-service, which is a deliberate choice: treatment plans are not shaped by an insurer's annual maximum. Staff will help prepare and submit PPO claims, and CareCredit, Cherry and Affirm cover payment over time. Hours run Monday through Thursday, 9am to 5pm. Rittenhouse Square is walkable from most of Center City, though anyone driving in should budget extra time for street parking around the square.

CEREC milling produces crowns in a single visit, while implants, veneers, Invisalign, dentures and extractions fill out the list. I love Philly Smiles! I have an amazing experience every time I come here, and both the assistants and doctors are so patient even when I have annoying teeth questions 😁😄 Also love the piano and ambiance Couldn’t recommend more
Wonderful people who are highly skilled and greatly appreciated.
I had a wonderful visit at PhillySmiles. The staff is incredibly welcoming and personable. I'm so grateful to have found this dentist through a friend's referral. I plan to recommend them to my colleagues.
I've gotten a ton of work done with PhillySmiles and on the surface it seemed like they did a great job but long term I've had significant issues with their work. - 2 fillings of mine were assessed by other dentists and they all made comments about the low quality work done on it. - I had to get a crown redone on a root canaled tooth and in the process the tooth was fractured. I spent months in intense pain and was told they couldn't find anything wrong with it but referred me to their internal dental surgeon who was booked for several months. When I told them that, they suggested I wait. I finally went to another dentist who told me it was days away from shattering. - I had a crown installed by them 2 years ago and it's already degraded to the point that it needed to get replaced (assessed by both my current dentist and my insurance). - I tried to see if the crown was still under warranty and give them a chance to fix their screw up but I was told in order to even see if it was under warranty I'd have to come in for a consultation (which took over a week to schedule) and mere minutes before arriving I was given a text that I would have to pay $250 for just the consultation before they would even tell me if there was a warranty. I've also had several times where I was charged for services I didn't ask for. Once I was charged $200+ for coming in just to ask the dentist a question even though she assured me I wouldn't be charged.
Kept my dentist even after my insurance changed, the staff here are great and very knowledgeable and accommodating!
They are good dentists in general. Not the best dentists I ever had (one filling fell off within a week once), but good enough to keep going back for the past few years. But I had a bad experience recently. I tried to book a regular cleaning and check, but they stupidly ofdfered me an appointment when they are closed (on Saturday). Then I asked to schedule an appointment, but they never called me back for the past month. I also contacted them because I wanted to make sure that they did not send me to the problematic dentist (Smiles at Ritenhouse Square) since I was once sent to the same building, but they never responded. Other dentists immediately let me know that they never sent me to the problematic dentist. I think thei episode shows how much each dentist cares about patients. Update: They finally responded because of this review. They are one of many businesses that only respond when a customer writes a bad review. I wrote this review so that they actually remember me, and it is working.
Dr. Tewari is the best dentist I have ever had in my life. I feel so lucky to have found Philly Smiles after moving to town. She is friendly, and the office is clean and professional. I have had Invisalign several times in the past, yet my teeth were still a mess. Dr. Tewari showed me how my teeth were crashing down on each other and urged me to fix them before I wore them down further. The level of detail and precision she applied to my case is unmatched. And I cannot believe how great my teeth look. She also does the cleaning herself and applies that same care to the routine work. As a patient of Philly Smiles, you can be completely confident that you will not be talked into unnecessary work, will not be overcharged, and that the environment is absolutely safe and professional. I cannot thank Philly Smiles and Dr. Tewari enough for the care I received during my time in Philadelphia. Note this is not the practice that was shut down by the health department– That would NEVER happen at Philly Smiles.
I have been coming to Philly Smiles for 15 years and have the highest praise for this dental practice. They have a customer focused , holistic approach and are always supportive and trustworthy. The dentists embrace the latest technology and treatments and take a conservative approach when doing procedures. The dentists and hygienists are committed to educating and guiding you to improve your dental health. Dr Roberts is a dentist guru and Danita effortlessly guides you through all the admin details. I am grateful to have found Philly Smiles.
Philly Smiles is the best dentist office I’ve ever encountered. FRom the professional staff to the office staff, they are extremely welcoming and comforting. They are always on time. They have all the latest technology and tools. And they make all procedures painless. I used to hate going to the dentist. Not anymore. MOst important, because of their care, my mouth is the healthiest it’s ever been.
I came to Philly Smiles today for a new patient consultation and onboarding exam, and had the pleasure of being taken care of by Dr. Tewari and Mr. Aaron. From my 1st step in the door I felt very welcomed by the front desk, before I was greeted warmly by Mr. Aaron who took me through X-rays. Dr. Tewari conducted my exam and cleaning where she was just the nicest person with a calming presence! Throughout the whole process they took the time to explain what they were doing, saying, and the exact nature of the care they were providing - I’ve never had a dentist put this much effort into making a patient feel comfortable with the treatment they were receiving! At the end they showed me all of the pictures and x-rays they had taken, and I left without any unanswered questions. Philly Smiles deserves the 5-stars they have! Thank you for making experience fantastic!
