About Planet Tooth Pediatric Dentistry

West Valley City families have historically driven east to find a children's dentist. Planet Tooth is on their own side of the valley, tucked on Anna Caroline Drive in the 84128 zip that covers the Hunter and Granger neighborhoods — a side street rather than a numbered arterial, which is worth knowing before you set off scanning for a strip-mall sign. The space runs a planets-and-rockets theme, and the practice describes itself as a group of doctors and nurses aiming for an environment that is welcoming, fun and affordable. The phone number spells KIDS, which is a fair summary of the patient list.

A first appointment is aimed at prevention and at calibrating your child's tolerance. That usually means an exam, a cleaning, fluoride, and a working conversation about diet and brushing, plus an honest read on how the child handled the chair — information that shapes how the next visit gets planned. Timing matters more than parents expect: primary teeth carry thinner enamel over a proportionally larger nerve, so decay travels from surface to pulp faster in a small child than the same lesion would in an adult, which is why a spot flagged as watchable in spring can need treatment by autumn. Preventive dentistry is the stated core of the practice, and when a young patient's cooperation runs out before the treatment does, both sedation dentistry and general anesthesia are handled here rather than referred out.

That escalation ladder deserves a plain explanation. Lighter sedation takes the edge off for a child who is anxious but fundamentally cooperative. General anesthesia is a different category: the child is fully asleep, an anesthesia provider monitors them throughout, there are fasting rules beforehand and a recovery period after, and it is reserved for extensive treatment or for children whose age or medical history rules out chairside work. It is a genuine option, not a first resort.

Emergency care is available, which counts for something on the west side, where the weekend alternative is a long drive or an emergency room that cannot restore a tooth anyway. The schedule runs four days: Monday to 4:30, Tuesday and Thursday latest at 5:30, and Friday to 3:30, with Wednesday closed. Those two late days are the ones to ask for if pulling a child out of school in Hunter or Granger is not workable for you.

A pediatric practice on Anna Caroline Drive in western West Valley City, in the Hunter and Granger area, with a space theme and a stated focus on keeping visits affordable. Preventive care is the core, and both sedation dentistry and general anesthesia are handled in-house for children who cannot be treated awake. Emergency appointments are available, and the office runs four days a week with Wednesday closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where in West Valley City is this office, and who is it closest to?
It is at 2682 Anna Caroline Drive, in the 84128 zip covering the Hunter and Granger areas on the west side of West Valley City. That puts it within a few minutes of most of western West Valley and parts of Magna, and it spares you the cross-valley drive to the east-bench children's offices. It sits on a side street, so navigate by the address rather than looking for a main-road sign.
Will my child be put to sleep for a filling?
Almost certainly not. Most fillings are done with the child awake and numb, sometimes with light sedation if they are anxious. General anesthesia is reserved for extensive treatment in a single sitting, very young children who cannot cooperate at all, or medical conditions that make chairside care unsafe. If it is recommended for your child, ask specifically why the lighter options were ruled out before agreeing to it.
My child knocked a tooth loose at the park. What should I do?
If it is a baby tooth, do not push it back in yourself, because forcing it can damage the permanent tooth developing above. Call the office and let them assess it. If it is a permanent tooth, handle it by the crown only, rinse gently with milk or saline, reinsert it if you reasonably can, and get seen within the hour. Emergency appointments are available at this office.

We've been coming here for a few years now and my son likes it. They do well with him while cleaning his teeth and what he likes is the games in the lobby.

Amazing staff and easy going Doctor. My son is Autistic and he was able to have his cleaning and check up feeling safe and watched cartoons on the ceiling tv. He got a toy at the end and was thanking everyone on his way out. Wonderful experience!

Thank you for being amazing and patient with both of my children who are both Autistic and not fond of the dentist at all. Dr Powell and his technicians are wonderful as both children had gone under to get some dental work done in Feb and recently returned for their 6 month check today and it all went well. We look forward to returning for their next check up. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my children.

I love taking my kids to Planet Tooth! They are the best pediatric dentistry in the valley by far. The staff is very friendly and professional. The games and movies in the waiting area provide more than enough options to keep kids occupied while they wait. My kids can’t wait to return. That says it all.

My son is on the autism spectrum and since our very first visit there everyone’s been super nice and patient with him. He’s no longer scared of going to the dentist! Dr. Powell always takes the time to hear out our concerns and answer all of our questions. Definitely recommend Planet Tooth to anyone struggling with finding a good dentist for their kiddos.

This place is awesome. My son woke up one morning with a swollen jaw and it was coming up on a holiday weekend. I started calling around trying to figure out what to do. I called the office and told them what was going on and they were able to get him right in and get him started on son antibiotics for his infection in his tooth. They were and always are so friendly and attentive to my kids and their needs. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants a great experience from the time you walk in the door until you walk back out. Thank you for all you guys do.
