About Plantation Family DentalCare
West Ashley covers enough ground that convenient means something different in Avondale than it does out past Bees Ferry, and Plantation Family DentalCare has picked the practical middle of it: a Savage Road address in the 29407 grid, inland of the Savannah Highway traffic and a short drive from the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard corridor. Byrnes Down, Northbridge, South Windermere and Avondale are all inside ten minutes, and downtown residents cross a single bridge to get here. A sister office in Goose Creek covers the other end of the metro, which is useful when a household is split between the two sides. James Island patients will find closer chairs, since coming this way means crossing the Wappoo Cut and doubling back.
Dr. Jeff Vasko and Dr. Kibbey run a general family practice with around thirty-five years of combined experience: exams, cleanings, fillings, children's fluoride treatment, cosmetic work and same-day emergency visits. Emergencies are where this office differentiates itself, partly through posted flat pricing and partly through how the appointment is structured. An emergency exam is a diagnostic visit before it is a treatment visit. A periapical x-ray shows the root tip and the bone immediately around it, while percussion and cold testing tell the dentist whether the nerve is inflamed but still alive, which is often reversible, or dying, which points toward root canal treatment or extraction. The published emergency fee covers that diagnosis and the x-rays, not the treatment that follows, and the point of the visit is to get you out of pain with a written plan and a price before anything irreversible happens. Prices posted online can move, so confirm the current figure when you call.
The stated culture here is a judgment-free room with no high-pressure selling, aimed squarely at patients who have stayed away for years and brace for a lecture when they finally return. Children are part of the caseload too, and fluoride varnish is a standard piece of those visits. Painted onto dry enamel in seconds, it feeds fluoride into the tooth surface as fluorapatite, a mineral that needs a more acidic environment to dissolve than the enamel it replaces, which is what allows an early white-spot lesion to remineralize instead of progressing into a cavity. Most insurance plans are accepted, with budget options for uninsured patients, and hours run Monday through Thursday 8am to 5pm and Friday to 4pm, with no weekend cover.

Very friendly, efficient service, and reasonable costs
I am very please with the service. And the staff is very professional.
I was very pleased. They were very knowledgeable, professional and courteous.
Walked in with a tooth that had broken off. I was told they could take me immediately. Waited 5 minutes and taken into a room where I was fitted for a crown. Start to finish about 1 hour. Great service. Always good. Very friendly.
I'm grateful to have been introduced to such wonderful people. The professionalism, care, mannerism and outstanding service by this team of people has been a God sent! From the time I've walked in the door, they have shown respect and concern about me and I appreciate that. It feels as though I've been going there for years. This is one of the best decisions I've made in my life about my teeth. I'm recommending Plantation Family Dental Care to everyone.
I dislike going to the dentist… a lot! But today I had a very pleasant experience. Claire put me totally at ease and was very gentle and efficient. Dr McKenzie was also quick and very pleasant. Good job and thanks to both of you for your kindness!
I am very disappointed with my experience. I had Zoom teeth whitening done at this office about two years ago without any issues. I scheduled another whitening appointment a week ago and took time off work specifically for today's appointment. When I arrived, I was told that I would first need dental X-rays and a cleaning before they could perform the whitening procedure. This requirement was never mentioned when I called to schedule the appointment, nor was it required during my previous whitening treatment. What was especially frustrating is that these additional services were presented as necessary only after I arrived for my appointment. To me, it felt like an attempt to upsell services that I did not request and that should have been my choice to accept or decline. If these were truly required, that information should have been clearly communicated when I scheduled the appointment. As a result, I lost a day of work, wasted my time, and left without receiving the service I originally booked. Better communication and transparency with patients would have avoided this entire situation.
My 14 year old son needed a tooth pulled. They were so kind, and patient with him thru the entire process. They even did breathing exercises to help him stay calm and focused. The procedure was fast and fairly painless according to my son. 10/10 recommend.
I am so glad I found this office and I hope they are always in my network. Everyone there was so friendly. The front desk staff person that checked me in and called me back (I am so sorry i didn't write your name down!) was so welcoming and friendly. Jackie was my hygienist and THE BEST! I would 10/10 recommend her. She was so great about explaining the process and getting to know me. Dr. Vasko was also great but he must be doing something really well as an employer to have a staff as happy as they all seem to be! I can't wait to recommend them to everyone i know.
