About Point Hope Dental Care

Of all the addresses that still say Charleston, Point Hope is among the newest: a master-planned community on the Cainhoy peninsula, reached by Clements Ferry Road off I-526, across the Wando from Daniel Island and a world away from the cobblestones downtown. Hopewell Drive sits inside it, which makes this the practical general dental office for residents of Point Hope, Cainhoy, Wando and the newer Clements Ferry corridor. From the peninsula or West Ashley it is a real drive, particularly at rush hour. Monday opens late, at ten and running to six for people who cannot leave work early; Tuesday through Thursday are conventional eight-to-five days.

Dr. Brian Ruiz's practice is weighted toward restorative and urgent care rather than elective cosmetics. Root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, and full and partial dentures make up the core of the work. Root canals are widely misunderstood as the source of pain when they are the treatment for it: the inflamed nerve tissue inside the tooth is removed, the canal cleaned and sealed, and the tooth then usually needs a crown, because a hollowed tooth fractures more readily than an intact one. That second appointment is part of the real cost, not an upsell.

Emergencies are a stated focus, and in a community this new, with a young population and a lot of youth sport, cracked teeth and oral trauma turn up more often than the demographics might suggest. Patients in pain are asked to call the office immediately rather than wait for a routine opening, and the practice is explicit that a genuine medical emergency belongs with 911 rather than a dental chair.

Invisalign is offered for adults and older teenagers wanting crowding corrected without fixed brackets, though results depend entirely on wearing the trays close to twenty-two hours a day. Most insurance plans are accepted, including Medicare Advantage, which is less common than it ought to be and matters for retirees on the Cainhoy side. The practice belongs to the Orahh Care Dental Community, a group network rather than a solo shingle, which tends to mean standardised systems for scheduling and billing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this office serve Daniel Island as well as Point Hope?
It sits on Hopewell Drive inside Point Hope, on the Cainhoy peninsula off Clements Ferry Road, so it is closest for residents of Point Hope, Cainhoy, Wando and the newer Clements Ferry corridor. Daniel Island is a short drive across the Wando and has practices of its own, making the choice there one of convenience rather than necessity. From downtown or West Ashley the trip is a genuine one at peak hours.
Why do I need a crown after a root canal?
Removing the inflamed nerve tissue from inside a tooth relieves the pain but leaves the tooth hollowed and more brittle, especially on back teeth carrying heavy chewing load. A crown covers the remaining structure and holds it together, substantially lowering the risk of a fracture that would cost you the tooth altogether. Budget for it from the beginning: it is a separate appointment and a separate fee, not an add-on invented afterwards.
Can I be seen the same day for a broken tooth?
The practice treats urgent problems as a priority and asks patients in pain to telephone immediately rather than wait for a routine opening. Cracked teeth and oral trauma are specifically listed among the problems handled here. Monday appointments run until six in the evening, which helps. For a genuine medical emergency, meaning uncontrolled bleeding, swelling that affects breathing, or a head injury, the instruction is to call 911 first.

Literally the best dentist office I’ve ever been to! Everyone is so friendly and they’re always on top of everything. I moved almost an hour away and still can’t bring myself to find a closer dentist.

Went in as a brand new patient for an evaluation/ treatment. From the front desk to the Doctor, and all the staff in between, everyone treated me like family! Explained things every step of the way and made sure I understood the course of action and all my Options. I dread the dentist, but looking forward to my next appointment. Highly recommend!!

Can I just say… GOD IS GOOD and so is this dental office!! 😅 Point Hope Dental?! They didn’t just clean my teeth, they started restoring my confidence. Let me talk about this lineup I had real quick—Desiree, Kessa, and Dr. Brian?? Oh that’s not a team… that’s A whole winning lineup! From the moment my husband and I walked in, we felt the love, the care, and the “we got you” energy. And listen… going to the dentist is not always a walk in the park situation, but they made it one! They didn’t rush me, didn’t confuse me, didn’t leave me guessing. They walked me through EVERYTHING—what to expect, how I might feel, what to do when I got home. And the part that got me? They even encouraged me through the healing process like, “you got this.” Excuse me?? Y’all out here doing teeth AND therapy?! 😉 Ok let me get back on task. I came in with a hidden insecurity… and I’m leaving with HOPE. And if you know, you know—that’s priceless. So if you’re looking for a place that’s professional, patient, and genuinely cares about YOU (not just your teeth), go ahead and book that appointment at Point Hope Dental. Trust me… your smile will thank you later!

My experience at Point Hope Dental Care was exceptional from the minute I arrived. Melanie, my hygienist, did an amazing job cleaning my teeth. She was very personable, and obviously takes pride in her craft. Dr. Ruiz, has a great bedside manner, is compassionate, caring, and very knowledgeable. He took time to address my concerns and I did not feel rushed. I highly recommend this practice.

Best hygienist ever have had (Ms Patricia). Top of the line dental equipment to make concise dental health plan. Compassionate dentist who I felt was not trying to do anything unnecessary. Dr Brian explained and answered all my questions. Will definitely have as my family dentist and recommend to others. Thank you for your expertise
